This is all I've found so far and it's very feeble.

Luc Deveraux was Jean Claude van Damme's character in Universal Soldier.
Somebody Gant was Clint Eastwood's in something like Firefox.

It's not that I'm fixed on only looking at films. It's just that that's all I've found.

Wrong Gant, though, but you're on the right lines generally.

A link between 'Hard Rain' and 'Universal Soldier' is that they're both folk/protest song titles. Pete Seeger and Billy Bragg respectively, I think.

OK, correction now I've checked. Bob Dylan and Donovan Leitch respectively.

Ok, so you got Dylan and Donavan mixed up with Billy Bragg and Pete Seeger?

Well, not really. I just named the singers I whose versions I happened to recall most vividly on the assumption that they might also be the composers. I then actually bothered to check - idle git that I usually am!

Protest songs, huh? Maybe, maybe not.

A clue might help here : some first names. There's a Daniel and a William and a Sandy among them. The other two first names are more unusual and might be too much of a giveaway. But one of those other two is a Dr.

Nicole Kidman was Dr Chase Meridian in Batman Forever...

William Williams seems unlikely.....
But Venus and Serena both have names that are instantly recognisable.

Gant was a med student in early ER who jumped in front of a train.

These are my thoughts. And if you don't like them, I have others.

It was Boney M and that could be considered a protest song

along the lines of

"Boney M are singing!I protest!"

I thought that 'Batman for ever' had killed off my protest song idea. Hmmmm. Anyway, I was thinking of movies with the same name as protest songs.

Could we have a military family here (soldier, batman) and an elements family (fire, rain)?
