Don't get too complicated. Just log for now that Tom = Hard Rain.
Now look at some other names. For Cleo's benefit, I can reveal that most, but not all, are indeed fictional.

Is it a left handed cigar?
I hear those are valuable and even have to be transported in armored cans.
or armoured if you really insist.

This is all I've found so far and it's very feeble.
Luc Deveraux was Jean Claude van Damme's character in Universal Soldier.
Somebody Gant was Clint Eastwood's in something like Firefox.
It's not that I'm fixed on only looking at films. It's just that that's all I've found.
Excellent brainstorming last night, JDub. Any more ideas?

Not bad, Cleo.
Deveraux=Universal Soldier - tick
Wrong Gant, though, but you're on the right lines generally.

A link between 'Hard Rain' and 'Universal Soldier' is that they're both folk/protest song titles. Pete Seeger and Billy Bragg respectively, I think.

OK, correction now I've checked. Bob Dylan and Donovan Leitch respectively.

egon Posted Oct 14, 2002
Ok, so you got Dylan and Donavan mixed up with Billy Bragg and Pete Seeger?

Toxxin Posted Oct 14, 2002
Well, not really. I just named the singers I whose versions I happened to recall most vividly on the assumption that they might also be the composers. I then actually bothered to check - idle git that I usually am!

Protest songs, huh? Maybe, maybe not.
A clue might help here : some first names. There's a Daniel and a William and a Sandy among them. The other two first names are more unusual and might be too much of a giveaway. But one of those other two is a Dr.

Nicole Kidman was Dr Chase Meridian in Batman Forever...

Daniel Booney?
William Williams seems unlikely.....
But Venus and Serena both have names that are instantly recognisable.
Gant was a med student in early ER who jumped in front of a train.
These are my thoughts. And if you don't like them, I have others.

Not quite
The song is supposed to be the Israelites in exile in Babylon wishing they were back home

I thought that 'Batman for ever' had killed off my protest song idea. Hmmmm. Anyway, I was thinking of movies with the same name as protest songs.

Could we have a military family here (soldier, batman) and an elements family (fire, rain)?
