this is the best article ive read on h2g2 yet, its amazing - i particurlarly liked the fact that empirical evidence wasnt considered sufficent proof Makes me laugh

Personally I think it is a question of how you define God (What you include / exclude from the definition).
As for wasting your time on arguing with a creationist, why bother. You can only argue with a reasonable man, not an unreasonable one.
Any religious text that you take literally, shows a rigid mind that wants a wall to hide behind, not a thinking mind that wants to interpret what is meant and why it was written, advancing thought.

Another point is that stage hypnotists can get people to find reasonable excuses for avoiding things that exist but they have been hypnotized into believing don't exist. The audience of course know the truth and just laugh in amusement. It is also like that experiment to do with concentration, where participants became so fixated on the task they were assigned to that they failed to see a man dressed in a gorilla suit, walk across the screen. In other words being open minded means seeing the truth, being blinkered means only seeing what you want to see, despite a greater reality being out there.
