Sorry Baldrick - couldn't resist
It was a valid point - I ddn't mean to make light of it
Perhaps Swiv just hasn't got round to umpire building yet ...
(whoops - I just can't resist umpire jokes)

Although once Androyd recovers from his illness and sees all these jokes....you'll be suffering his umpirical wrath!!

androyd Posted Sep 27, 2000
Of course the sun never sets on the British Umpire but bad light can stop play and if I can't see myelf, I think that qualifies....oh I forgot to put my specs on...*fumbles about myopically*...

*peers about* No, I'm sorry rule 367a clearly states that if the umpire can't see himself then play must cease...or something like that...*mumbles* or was it rule 3b? ....1f? errr something or other.

I've never seen Tumbleweed stop play before ... Is it in the rules?
Umpire
Spirit of Olias (occasional spectre) Posted Oct 2, 2000
I can't see any rule relating to it, I think we just assume that the batsman gets 5 runs for hitting it.
Umpire
Spirit of Olias (occasional spectre) Posted Oct 3, 2000
There was no-one around to hit anything.
I just wanted to clarify what would happen had there been.
Umpire
androyd Posted Oct 3, 2000
Luckily cricket is not played in countries uncivilised enough to have tumbleweed. I suspect Baldrick has been eating mouldy bread and is having visions again.

Lipsbury Pinfold (Part-time Timelord) Posted Oct 3, 2000
Perhaps it is just that tumbleweed keeps stopping play in the counries that have it so they give up and play baseball instead.
Are there any rules about tumbleweed for baseball
Sorry probably a place best not gone to - please ignore the previous musings

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Oct 3, 2000
Harrumph!!! I'll have you know young man that there are several leagues in evidence here in Texas, some of them showing a very respectable level of proficiency, and that's just one state. I believe also that the very first international cricket match was played between England and America, and possibly in America itself. I don't have time to research that one right now as I have to take my pasty English body out into the baking Texas sun and catch a bus to work.

*rummages around in the boxes that he shipped across the Atlantic and still hasn't unpacked a year later*
I know that my bat and pads are in here somewhere, along with my creams. As soon as I find them I 'll make my way over to the indoor nets and face up to a few.

* Bowls a few balls since no-one else is around (glances to make sure that no-one saw how wide they went) - trims the grass for winter and takes a roller over the pitch.
