Any room in the team for an English left arm spinner batting at around 8 or 9?
Is there a small bar in the pavilion where we can gather in the fading light of evening for a pint and post mortem discussion of the match?

Most of the pavilions I remember had a faint smell of socks and linseed oil and were damp and somewhat dingy - Not good for sustained reminiscing as the light fades
Though in H2G2 I'm sure we can have a pavilion with a bar comfortable seats, a roaring fire in winter and silent but efficient service where one can muse in play by play detail to ones heart's content.

Indoor nets - another civilised invention, at least if you live in a country that doesn't really seem to have a summer anymore
The only ones I remember were at school and could be leathal if you had 15 incompetent bowlers bowling at 15 incompetent batsmen
Contentious point probably but in mixed classes at school the girls seemed to be much more accurate at bowling or a least less wild

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Sep 9, 2000
This shows the soul of a true cricket lover - you obviously know that winter is for two things. 1) To sit cosily by a roaring fire with a nice cup of tea, or maybe a gin and tonic, reading the latest cricket books and biographies, hopefully in the company of another true believer so that you can discuss the summer just past, the winter tour, and the summer to come, as well as who was the greatest leg spinner/opening bat/slip fielder/etc. of all time. 2) To listen to the winter tour if you're lucky enough to be able to get TMS, and if the beaurocrats can iron out all the rights issues so that it can actually be broadcast.
On that note, I must voice my disappointment that it was not TMS which was webcast this summer through the Lord's website, but commentary by a team of their own who, whilst they gave a very good service, simply couldn't live up to Aggers, Blowers, Jenkers, and The Bearded Wonder. I have to know something - is Blowers ok? I saw from his website that he had undergone major surgery. What's the S.P. on his health? Did he broadcast this summer?

There seems to be a conspiracy - all references to TMS seem to be vanishing from the net (so to speak)

Right am back.
Yes cloviscat I AM girl-shaped (have been for a long time now )
And Olias will soon be buried - you're all invited to the funeral.
I am amazed at how this has grown - shall be back at a sensible time tomorrow to add members and build pavillion and nets - do you want them as fora or pages?
Oh and enjoy the sandwiches

It's nice to be back
Please go and visit the 'Build a Pavillion' forum with your ideas of what you want in it, and then I will get building it on it's own page.

Any room for a wicket-keeper who also opens the batting and has his very own Mad Hat collection?

Swiv (decrepit postgrad) Posted Sep 14, 2000
You're more than welcome Baldrick
Oh, and we have an offer of Olias's ashes for the trophy
If they aren't required I will bury them under the pavillion.

Since Olias has actually died I'd be happy to take over as scorer, one of my lesser credentials being that I actually am a scorer. Alternatively I'd be happy to volunteer as a gloriously myopic and genteely biased umpire given to completely idiosyncratic decisions.

You will have to fight for the scorer role with the ghost of Olias - I don't know quite how you fight with a ghost. Still I'm sure he could initiate you

I am a pacifist ..at least when confronted with ghosts....um..umpire then...I do have a book of rules....slightly dog-eared and ever so gently out of date....
Scorer
Spirit of Olias (occasional spectre) Posted Sep 16, 2000
I have no intention of fighting over the role of scorer - since I'm dead it might be simpler if i take on the role of statistician instead. Especially since i don't have that much scoring experience anyway. In fact, I'll become the club scarer and statistician if that is okay with everyone.
