Traveller in Time looking up
"I just do not know if I can keep my fingers from typing even if noone has any clue about what the question is.
And can I have the badge on a seperate account?
I got a nice one for it clean and easy to remember. "

Hmmmm.... You've definitely shown yourself to be very interested and willing to help people here on h2g2 with questions.
I think the one thing I would worry about is that while you're generally very quick to answer questions, people often have a difficult time understand your somewhat cryptic language - it is awfully important for gurus to be able to communicate pretty clearly.
What do you think?

Traveller in Time making riddles
"You are absolutely right, but as am I, as I have seen also many clear formulated answers to just something else then the Researcher was asking for.
Most of my answers wiil match perfect or seem to make no sense at all, just depending on who is reading.
Besides, feel free to explain any answer if you think the Researcher with a 'question' is not deconfused enough, or too much. "

I'm certainly no newbie as you can see from my number. But if I was, I'd hate to be spoken to in such a confusing manner. Sorry Traveller, but there it is. If you *were* to be made a Guru and then needed someone else to follow along behind to explain what you've written I can't see how that would be helpful. That's what you're suggesting though.
So here's your application? You'd refuse to be less confusing in order to help and you'd leave it to the person reading to understand, or not. If they didn't, someone else could track you and explain. Personally I don't think that would work.
What about volunteering to be a Scout? That way you wouldn't be answering questions but you'd still get a badge.

"As I have noticed in post 2.
But perhaps even plain english is not clear enough?
And do not forget I know things that might not be explained. I knew about the last downtime on beforehand and I am still trying to figure out what of the changes is to be public whithout confusing even more. ( x201) "

Well, I'm pretty sure that gloating about knowing inside information wouldn't be something approved of for any members of the various volunteer schemes.

I must say I've never truly understood the purpose of the Guru scheme, as I truly doubt it has any impact on who answers questions and when. Just like a Guru badge never motivated me to do more in the Feedback areas, I doubt the lack of a badge would discourage anyone who has as much time as Traveller here obviously has
My point is, if he wants it give him the badge next recruiting cycle. No big deal.
(PS - I knew lots of things beforehand too )

I've been here 5 years and never felt the need to show any badges. There weren't even Aces when I started and we all got along fine. There are those of us who are proudly badgeless, who will be helpful as and when we want to, not because we feel we should. We still care about the community and there's no rule that says we mustn't just because of the gaps on our page. I'm thinking of people like myself and a girl called Ben here but I know there are plenty of others.
A question, Traveller. Do you just want the shiny badge, or do you genuinely want to help?
If you want to help you *must* aim to make your postings easier to understand.
If you feel the badge will give you some kind of important status then continue to post in a way which is difficult to read and then people can ignore you if they wish.

"I must say I've never truly understood the purpose of the Guru scheme, as I truly doubt it has any impact on who answers questions and when."
It does make a hell of a lot of difference in them being answered accurately though. As an ex-Guru and then the person who ran the Gurus for a while, most of the people answering questions *were* Gurus, with ACEs mopping up most of the rest (at one time answering questions was the ACEs job before the Gurus came along).
Having pretty much instant access to the Editorial team meant that the answer was never more than an email away. Non-volunteers don't get that.

Traveller in Time on the right hand side list
"Hey this is not a matter of becoming a Guru.
Replying to any posting is allowed as it is about public forums.
And like I wrote in my second post, (the first is just conform the Forum Header), I do not even want the badge."

That might be a possibility, one of your other accounts acting in the way that is expected from Gurus.
** Jupiler enhanced inside information **
Nice U-number by the way. Got some around it too?

Instant's really an exaggeration, not to mention that the Guru mailing list never had much more than a few heads-ups a month and a few discussions about something happening onsite. Not too many questions. For the most part, people who knew how h2g2 worked answered questions, and they were Gurus. They didn't know how h2g2 worked because they were Gurus or had a secret hotline to the h2g2 Eds.

That begs the question, then, why did you start a conversation under Volunteer to be a Guru?

Traveller in Time very happy
"Congratulations you are the first to read my inconsistency
Actually I would like just to be member of the Group.
In that way I would be able to deconfuse Researchers just a bit better.
>Nothing new within the last 7 days
Hmm, quite quiet indeed. "
