Hi.
I love being an ACE- but I want to do more!
I think I know reasonbly enough about this place and I definately know what I dont know and what I do know.(?)
Plus my blue column really needs something grey.
What I'm to say is I'd really like to be a guru.

Ok, that's great news. To show that you've got what it takes to be a guru (and because Mina doesn't recruit until Thursday), lurk and post to some of the threads than can be found at h2g2 Support Central, U295. I think I normally say something else here, ummm.
The more visible you are (in a _good_ way) the more likely Mina is to hand out a badge, so just hang around, look up the <./>DontPanic-FAQ</.>, linkinate <./>too</.> <./>much</.>, and occasionally descend upon some poor person who asked a question.

As long as you know how to look up the faq when you need to, you should be able to pick other things up off the other gurus if you lurk around enough. There's quite a few threads hanging off U295 at the moment, so there's plenty to look through.

AJ Rimmer, whether or not you become a guru, you should learn never(?) to press or otherwise try any link or code posted by Spelugx (even if it looks like a mostly harmless conversation or commentary) Certain people really should know better by now.
I think the excessive number of deliberately broken links may be because I told him off earlier - or it may have something to do with the ...

Don't worring about trying code posted by me, they actually moderate nasty code like perl -e '[this would be removed by a moderator]'. Some links on the other hand... hmm, no good examples at the moment, just think along the lines of replacing your introduction when clicked upon (but I'd probably receive some more mail from Mina if I did)
The really do make typing links more tricky (jim: the point of keys being close on a qwerty keyboard is to _slow_ the typist, < /. > are pretty close).

Worse yet you have to co-ordinate the shift key with < . / > and that's next in line too (unless you're a left-little-finger shifter).

I'm out of the office for the next couple of weeks, but when I get back I'll see how you've been doing. The more lovely questions you answer, the more likely I am to notice you.
Thanks for volunteering.

I've tried to answer some questions but they get answered so quick. And I have had very little time on h2g2 lately (less than normal ie not 6 hours a day)

It's always worth adding something to a conversation, even if it has been answered, especially feature suggestions. And especially when you are applying to be a Guru - it gets you noticed. Just try to do what you can. Good luck!
