An owl guru? A novel idea...

By 3, yes, it's optional, but if you do answer questions, wit can help stop people feeling intimidated by your towering intellect and enormous knowledge.

It ought to come naturally to an owl anyway. Perhaps they should have been numbered differently, ie:
"2. wit"
... but then what would we do about needing "2. woo (Mina)"?

That's a good response, MaW.
I couldn't think of anything to say in response to that, despite laughing my head off...

Hi OwlofDoom,
How have you been getting on answering questions? I don't seem to remember seeing you in any of the feedback forums, have you found somewhere else to help out?

I've been responding to whatever's popped up in U295 and hasn't been answered already (take a look at my user space to see what I've been doing)

Heh. Do you lot always pass the blame? Well, I have been answering questions, so I'm not really passing the blame.

I don't know if Mina has instigated the newly discussed procedure of asking a potential Guru to post links to the forums in which they have answered questions rather than her having to run round after them (or keep a closer eye on U295 in the first place).

'Passing the blame' - good description, although being able to quote chapter and verse of the relevant documentation is a good skill for a guru as it then allows the newbie to branch out from that part of the docs and read the rest. Plus the docs are definitive, except when wrong.

Heh heh but if they're wrong, we can always blame the italics.
No, seriously, I think I'd be pretty committed to such a task, not just bounding newbs onto the italics or owt
Now, on to U295 to see who else I can blame...

I don't memorise h2g2 help pages, even i'm not *that* boring. I just know where to look and copy and paste the relevent things.

I'll just let you all guess my trick for being able to quote chapter and verse at the appropiate times.

Either:
1. You memorised the urls and c&p like i do.
2. you have the help pages bookmarks
3. you have them printed out and stuck on the wall above your PC

You missed off:
4. you have off-site hard disk copies of certain information with better/faster indexing

I've done 1 for the perl docs, but not for here.
If you could see my bookmark files then you wouldn't be suggesting 2.
3 sounds good, but there is no wall behind this, plus I'd ruin the wallpaper.
4 sounds like something I might do, but haven't bothered coding yet.
The actual answer is a wee bit simpler...
