Can I change my entry?

I wrote an entry about the Japanese new year last week, and today it got taken out of peer review. But when I showed it to my mum, she pointed out one mistake and one thing I should explain more, and I think she's right.
I read the FAQ and I got the fact that I can't edit anything that has gone to the editors, but can I make any changes while it's being recommended?

Don't panic Cherryfish!

As you probably have seen, your entry is starting to follow a standard process, which will end on the front page. You will receive a message from the sub-editor who will work on it, and you can ask them to include your new facts.

BTW, congratulationssmiley - cheers

When the Entry comes to be subedited, you can contact the SubEditor directly and ask them to include your changes. In a day or two, a new Entry should be created, with the same title as yours but with a different A number. You can find this by searching for 'Japanese New Year' - the new Entry will be flagged as 'Recommended'. If you go to that new Entry, you'll see the name of the SubEditor, to whom you can then drop a note.

Hope that makes sense smiley - smiley

Hi Marjin smiley - smiley

Not all subeditors will contact the author, so if there's something that ought to be added, it's often best to contact the Sub directly

That is true, you can't edit a piece yourself as it makes its way through the sub-editing process.

What you need to do is post to the Peer Review thread for the piece (it's attached to the bottom of the entry now) and say that you've made a mistake or that something needs clarification. The Sub Editors use the points raised in the Peer Review thread in their editing, so if you post there they will see it and take your comments on board.

The piece hasn't yet gone to a sub.

Seems there is only one thing we agree on: Grab that sub-editor!

In practise it seems that you can grab hold of someone at all stages of the editing process if there is a problem. After all the Editors are keen on making sure that everything that goes into the guide is accurate.

I recall Hoovooloo having a real go at one of the Italics (Sam or Ashley I think) because they inserted something into his entry about Centrifugal Forces between the entry coming back from the Sub and reaching the front page. So one as a basic resercher does have a certain amount of influence despite it not saying so officially.

Thanks very much, Marjin, Danny B and Greydesk!smiley - biggrin
I didn't see any names of sub-editors next to the entry so I wrote all the corrections I needed to make and posted it to the conversation.

Indeed I was in a bit of a panicsmiley - blush but that was really a great help!
Thanks again, and for helping me out so quicklysmiley - cheers

As far as grabbing a Sub goes - I've a solution. I'm going to post to the Subforum with details.

I have posted to the forum with a little message, but you should still try and contact them first if you can. smiley - smileysmiley - cake

NB: The preferred tone when contacting Subs and Italics is polite but not intimidated. We're as normal as anyone else (well, the Subs anyway. I have my doubts about the Italics smiley - winkeye)

There's no reason anyone would say no to a reasonable request. As long as it's a request. A proportion of those who are disillusioned with the Editorial Process are so because they had a habit of making *demands*.

Sorry, that's all a bit heavy - I meant to say 'Go for it - and I look forward to seeing the Entry on the <./>FrontPage</.>.'

That was in no way specifically aimed at you. It was a backlog-buster. One of the italics has acknowledged this to be the case and promised action. smiley - smileysmiley - cake

That made no sense. I meant that your request for changes has been acknowledged by TPTB and they'll look after things. smiley - smileysmiley - cake
