The London Plane is p[robably the most common tree lining the streets of London, because it's bark absorbs pollutant gases and then peels off.

My encyclopaedia says:
"The planes are large trees up to 170 ft tall with broad lobed leaves and bark which peels off in large patches. Their flowers hang in globular heads and their small dry seeds with tufts of silky hairs form tight balls which separate on drying. They thrive in towns, particularly the London Plane (Platanus acerifolia) a cultivated type of unknown origin".

Perhaps I'll write a GE on this.smiley - smiley

Your 'other suggestions' looks very bare with only one suggestion. Either add a few more suggestions or remove it. Another suggestion might be pyracantha with its red or orange berries and 2-inch thorns.

What a GREAT idea!!!! I live in a much different climate, but I am DEFINITELY going to start looking around for suitably torturous desert plants!!!

Hi, Mina!

Sorry to only arrive when you had everything ready!

Two more plants:
Teasel--the dry prickly seedheads were used in 'teasing' the fibres when treating cloth, so it's quite appropriate for an entry which is being a bit of a tease smiley - bigeyes. Apparently it's also a protection against witches smiley - run.

Passion flower:
This might be a bit cheeky since the Passion referred to is the Passion of Christ rather than the kind under discussion smiley - bigeyes.
--"According to Brewer's Phrase and Fable, "the leaf symbolizes the spear; the five anthers, the five wounds; the tendrils, the cords or whips; the column of the ovary, the pillar of the cross; the stamens, the hammers; the three styles, the three nails; the fleshy threads within the flowers, the crown of thorns; the calyx, the glory or nimbus; the white tint, purity; and the blue tint, heaven.""

No problem. smiley - smiley

I want to write a separate entry on Teasel, so I've just added it to the list at the end for now.

I'd rather leave passion fruit out though (although it's another one I do have it in my garden!), I don't really think it fits.

**grits teeth**

I actually agree with Mina on this front. Passion tends to happen only between teenagers.

Not that I'm denying it's possible to be a teenage sado-masochist, by the way. It just sounds unlikely. smiley - winkeye

I just had a thought, I don't really see how Golden Shower fits into an Entry called 'The Torture Garden' - that's really a fetish (unless it pertains to being urinated on one's head whilst it is restrained in a box?). Sio, perhaps it should be 'The Fetish Garden' and then you could include Lady's Slipper for shoe fetishists etc (smiley - erm Come to think of it, I seem to recall L.S. is already there though)

I'm happy to change the title - although personally I'd find it extremely torturous to be weed on!

And there are plenty of teenage SMers - most of us adults were teenagers once. smiley - winkeye

Actually, I don't think I need to change the title - the theme of the garden is - 'The UK BDSM Garden', so all the plants fit with that.

The title is simply an eyecatcher - also I've got an entry called 'The Torture Garden Fetish Club', which is why I wanted a similar title.

Sorry it took me a couple of days to notice your message, btw!
