PoV migration to h2g2
Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Started conversation Feb 10, 2005
1am to 3am GMT UK location.
U1254774 has migrated to h2g2 from PoV and submitted an entry to PR. I am unable to post an ace greeting on the PS as everytime I try to post her a message I get the 'please log in' 'click here to continue surfing without registering' blah blah page.
Initially I thought it was h2g2 downtime problem but I have successfully posted to h2g2 threads.

thanks GD
I was sure I couldn't have been the first person to come across it
*puts in request that all thread titles are more problem specific*
I was trying to be thorough in a reply to the PR thread and do an ACEing on the side but wanted to go to bed so was running out of patience!!
All's well that ends well!!

"I concider site boundary crossing members free for greeting only after they have set foot on h2g2.
Just remember the member will probably see the greeting in their own skin, so use of <./>ThePost</.> named entries is tricky. "

Peta Posted Feb 10, 2005
Hi Ancient Brit,
There are a number of good reasons why deliberately coaxing POV members over to h2g2 at this moment in time is not a particularly good idea.
It's absolutely fine if a few wander across naturally - no problem whatsoever - but now is not the time to go full out to integrate them, because of a number of reasons, including known bugs, issues surrounding closing times, moderation issues and 'skinning' of personal spaces and journals.
I think you'll find that a lot of people here - including myself - are very keen to see the free flow of members from one area to another. However, we need to resolve a few issues before we actively attempt to open the whole DNA platform out to everyone moving over from the h2 messageboards.
Forcing the issue ahead of time isn't actually helpful, it may even have a detrimental effect on the end result. So whilst we do appreciate your enthusiasm, and support your belief, hold up a bit will you, whilst we finish laying the table?

"Can I order 'A la carte' ?
What about these members crossing the borders on their own? They will at least generate some 'site confusion' if Researchers try to post to their space.
Not even a brief

Peta I will try and curb my enthusiasm.
My interest in POV has suffered a set back in any event.
Do you know of anyone who has jumped the wall unaided ?
I would imagine that anyone with dual personalities, ie a foot in each camp could work it, but I doubt if a single POV Member stands a chance.
It's almost as bad being moderated and trying to get back in.

" Do not underestimate anybody, I think several of the POV members are ITC workers by profession. There is not much needed for them to find their way on the DNA cluster.
Besides we have several HooToo Reseachers set up by Messageboard members.
Hi 'SEF' "

Come on - SEF has a foot in every camp. ( Don't you SEF
)
Are all these high tech wizards from POV likely to create more problems than you high tech 'testers' of the Hub can handle.
What I asked was do you know of any such illegal immigrants who unaided have hacked their way out of POV? Needn't be names just how many.
How would you size up U1254774
A techy immigrant with something to offer h2g2 who doesn't need a welcome
A techy immigrant who doesn't need a welcome but may well be a loose cannon
An illegal immigrant helped across the border by a friend who is prepared to give help at this side of the border so doesn't need a welcome and may well fit nicely into the community.
An illegal immigrant helped across the border by a friend so that they can play silly b*gg*rs
A lucky one off stowaway who needs all the help that is available.
Peta says leave it be for the moment, but when the time comes should there be any form of border control ?
How many are there ? Should they be encouraged to link together over there in POV. As they are given access to added functionality will they disperse across the DNA sites ? (assuming there are any left) When/how will they be afforded the full functionality of DNA ? What will they do with it ? What part if any will h2g2 play in all of this ? What will the effect of all this be on h2g2. Think about this, as the functionality of POV grows the more members it could accrue. It may well be that in the course of events migration may be the other way. The mind boggles.
It bothers me that if the latter case ensues, at what stage am I likely to be able to post to POV.
IMHO existing members of DNA sites should be able to contact/choose a friend but I have tried this and finished up being scuppered.
