Traveller in Time smiley - tit on the wrong site (the effect seems DNA wide)
"The search function results in

>No Results Found

for any request.
I just wonder if this is a failing service, a failing function or a bug? "

<./>Search</.> has gone down again. It was working yesterday.

The way to test it is to type 'insanity' into the search box. If it returns 'We're sorry, but your search for 'insanity' didn't find any results in any DNA sites,' that can't possibly be right so the search must be at fault smiley - winkeye.

I do a (mostly)'daily' search for ["Monty Pyhton"] I know the 'sane' results by heart. "

Traveller in Time smiley - tit finally finding that lost thread again
"The search comes back to life again. (Service restarted, so it was a 'Service Down' after all ?)"

Search fails quite regularly. We're investigating why this is, but it's a very slow process. All we can do usually is rebuild the search index when it breaks, as we've done this morning.

Traveller in Time smiley - tit on his head
"Like last friday?

Shall we make this a regular thread like 'server downtime' ?"

I don't think that's necessary. We know when search dies, so having lots of people reporting it at the same time doesn't add anything to our knowledge.

Traveller in Time Reporting Bugs -o-o- Broken the chain of Pliny -o-o- Hired

Traveller in Time smiley - tit scratching his head
"True, but researchers should know about the failing search too.

Some part of the work in creating an entry is just checking not to give double information.

I have seen several attempts to write something about a _new_ topic while the search did not reveal the subject was already covered. "

They can always check via the categorisation system... and, to be honest, I've had better results that way. It beats trying to think of relevant search terms.

Traveller in Time smiley - tit in total confusion
"Suppose I think of a subject to write an entry on say 'insanity'.
After the search revealed me; nothing is found on the topic, there is no normal logic saying me to try the categorisation.

smiley - sillysmiley - erm well it just happens, you know? smiley - erm"

Traveller in Time Reporting Bugs -o-o- Broken the chain of Pliny -o-o- Hired

Traveller in Time smiley - tit on a wire
"The high percentage regions have stabilised at, more or less, the same level as yesterday.

Only in the last entries is some fluctuation left. As far as I have seen in the past, a daily deviation of one percent is normal.

The only error prone aspect is that; if there is a daily re-evaluation of all the topics, the last passes can go overlappig the first. "

It takes the best part of a day to completely reindex after search breaks. It's still going at the moment.
