Have the old skins been turned off?

I use brunnel and for the last few days I cannot view anything in brunnel, but I can in ripley.
Is this a bug or is it the end of the world as I know it?

still unable to view h2g2 in brunel, very disheartened now, as the other skins are just to bright

1. log in - you will wind up in Pliny
2. then go to top right and click preferences
3. select brunel and then click the "update" button at the bottom
if you are not automatically taken to your personal space, go there
bookmark it as Brunel PS or somesuch designation.

Now you will be in brunel UNTIL you go to the front page
When you go there you will automatically be thrown back into Pliny
Sometimes it happens on other pages too

Just go back to your BOOKMARKED PS !
( the myspace button in pliny just takes you to your ps in pliny )

Whenever you log back in to h2g2 you will have to do it following those first 3 steps up there at the beginning of this post.
And if you are reading the site but not logged in ypu will run into error messages sometimes

Oh, and if that doesn't work maybe you need to clear your browser cache, cookies and history
Close your browser
And then power down your computer and then start it up again

Then try what I said again

When I am in Pliny I can click on Heleloo's name and I get taken to Heleloo's Pliny ps
When I am in Brunel, I click on heleloo's name and get an "unknown error" message


The following error occurred: An unknown error has occurred

Does anyone out there in hootoo land know anything about this
Maybe we need some feedback from Heleloo first?
Is this thread in the right place, even?

I thought design feedback would be the right place, as it is to do with a skin?

Yeah, Heleloo, I looked over this entry and agree with you. It's interesing because there was a discussion about this (where to put access questions) in Ask a couple of weeks ago. I will try to find it and maybe link this thread to it. Administration was saying that we should bring these questions to their feedback area. You did. You got no answers. After days of waiting.

Granted, it is Christmas and maybe the relevant administrators are celebrating. Anyway, I am going to go find the thread in Ask now.

My brunel works and it's (mostly) OK.
Some time ago I put MySpace into favourites & use that. It looks like this:

I'm sorry I missed this thread, for some reason I wasn't subscribed I think... I mainly find the bugs and problems at A87753135

Also, Ripley is ery old and fragile, and can't be fixed sadly. But work is in progress to bring all the old skins over to Pliny, so it will become like home for everyone.

The advice above looks right,
* Log in (which brings you to Pliny)
* use a bookmark for your space in Brunel. Once you are logged in, you should be able to switch skins without going via preferences.

If it fails, clearing cookies and cache are good ideas, and then restarting and logging in.

I have tried all these things, on 3 different machines, and still no luck.

even changing preferences to alabaster, brings the same message.

I am totally baffled, as this doesn't seem to be a widespread thing

One thing that might sound crazy is to go to your page in Pliny, and just try to edit your PS? Lady Pennywhistle had problems recently (not the identical, but still...) and her page was ok in Pliny too.

I've asked Pastey to have a look, too, but he is mostly off line over the holidays.

Hiya, quick question, is it all of Brunel that's not working for you, or just a couple of pages?

In alabaster I also saw the error on Heleloo's page.

Pastey, it appears to be just my space page not working, I can get other pages in brunel, if I manually type in the address. Clicking any button on my space page automatically brings me to a pliny page

I just tried to get it in another browser(IE), and still experience the same bug.

I am currently using Firefox 16.0.1

Heleloo, please go to Pliny and try to edit your ps. It might help... let us know if it works.

Hiya Heleloo, it sounds like there's something in the GuideML of your page that's breaking the Ripley based skins. I'll have a quick look at it and see if I can find out what it is

And yes Clare, I was having a couple of days off, being a tech team of one means that when I need to take a break over holidays etc, we've got to rely on your patience for a short while

I did try this earlier and it didn't work

I will try editing my page and see if that helps, I would have no idea, what could be causing the break on my page, I haven't used GuideML for years

Oh my stars, just doing an edit on the page worked!. I didn't change anything, just previewed then saved, and now my page works
