Design Feedback - Most Popular Conversations

Hello!

Something has struck me a few times before, and today again, while looking at the Front Page. There is this neat Most Popular Conversations list on the right, but when I click on one of them (say, 'Give the land back to the indigenous people') I am taken to the conversation list in Askh2g2 (F19585). At that point I often get discouraged to look for the relevant conversation (yes yes, I have the attention span of of an overcoffeinated amoeba, I know smiley - winkeye).

Still, I wanted to know if it was a deliberate feature, or something on the 'not urgent but to be modified later' list, or some weird bug arising from me. Or something entirely different, of course.

Heya toybox!

We're actually fixing a most popular / active at the moment. Any thoughts on how it should work?

It should bring you to the conversation in question. The info page brings you to the last post made in any conversation. wouldn't it be possible to have that on the FP, too? Oh, and take out message centres.

Yes, bringing you to the conversation in question is what I would expect. To the latest post rather than the first?

And take out message centres, as Bel said.

Hi all, I have absolutely no idea who reads this,I was actually trying to find a contact us section but this website is an absolute maize and sadly as Im a little scatterbrained it's obviously way beyond my comprehension.
I was going to ask someone (I've no idea who) Why is there no edit facillity on this website and a spellchecker would be be summat to die for.
Thanks for reading this and do pass it on if you're in the know.Regards.Rick.

Hi Rick!

Yes, it's a bit of a maze but you do get used to it.

As you've probably guessed it's rather old and things have been bolted on over the years. We do have a new version in alpha testing at the moment which is a lot more clearly laid out.

There's two reasons we don't have an edit function at the moment. The first is that this being an old site with old code, it'll be rather hard to put it in, same with the spell check. The new version will at least give us the option. And that's the second reason, once people can edit their posts it opens up a whole can of worms about not thinking before posting, or saying something that sparks an argument, and then changing that and claiming innocence. The debate continues smiley - smiley

Hi Pastey,I can see your point there but even after posting a posting we often spot typos we missed previously, even if the edit button only worked for a short while after posting it would still help a lot of us.BTW thanks for your response.Regards.Rick.

Yup, that's the general concensus to have something like that smiley - smiley The core code at the moment can't handle the change though unfortunately, but we're changing the core code smiley - winkeye
