DF - 'Plain' skin as a My Preferences option

I'm sure there's some reasoning behind it, but how come the Plain skin isn't available alongside Brunel, Alabaster and Classic Goo as an option in the My Preferences drop-down box? I've been informed that the Plain skin can be quite useful and may help new users to cope with the site.

Because its not an official skin and is unsupported.

No it was just one of Jim Lynn's pet projects, by coincidence it worked well for digibox users.

but if you change your URL to plain, it is selectable as a skin under 'preferences' and updating your profile will save it, so when you log in next time your default should be plain.

That's because the Plain skin isn't official, and thus contains options not available in Brunel.
