This is an article on British rock band Def Leppard. It's not too fawning despite the fact that I am a fan. Any comments will be appreciated.

TheOkapi - Sensitive Scout...So Do It PROPERLY!

Hi, Armagod!
I'm a sucker for rock and paricularly like Def Leppard.
I'm also a Scout and love this in that capacity, too! It's really readable, to my mind, and has a wealth of the information stuff.
Suggest?!?!
I've had a rummage round and found a few Edited pieces in the Guide that might be useful to link to:-
Iron Maiden @ A331985
Samson @ A355484
Saxon @ A314975
Reading Festival @ A279713.
Don't know about you, but I figure the more people you can turn on to Rock, the better!!
Let me know what you think, cos I'd like to recommend this for inclusion when my time comes round. But if some other Scout comes along in the meantime, get this flagged!!

I like it. smiley - bigeyes

It is well structured and easy to read. There are a few grammatical errors that you might want to weed out. Or you could just leave them for the sub-ed to spot. smiley - winkeye

Just a minor point. I wonder if you could reword this sentence to remove the bracket: "With master producer, Robert John 'Mutt' Lange (AC/DC, Boomtown Rats, Foreigner, the Cars, Billy Ocean and more recently Bryan Adams, The Corrs and his wife Shania Twain!)"? It took me three attempts to figure out what you were trying to say. At first glance it looks as if Brian Adams is married to Shania Twain with The Corrs playing gooseberry in the middle. smiley - smiley

Hi all. I have this in my hot little hands at the moment. Anything you want to add or change, Okapi?

Amy - what WERE the grammatical errors you noticed? I also had trouble with that particular sentence, but I think I've worked something out...smiley - winkeye

Sentences without verbs. That sort of thing. Nothing drastic. Leave it to the sub-ed. smiley - bigeyes

Oh, and the author is Armagod, isn't it?

I AM the sub-ed, that's what I meant...smiley - winkeye

Yeah, I noticed that only AFTER I'd made the posting, so the invitation is of course extended should Armagod feel excluded...smiley - smiley

*sound of ant stamping little foot*

That's 4 out of 4 articles I've looked at in the past two days that have been put through both systems. Aaaarrrrggghh! What a waste of my time.

Sorry armagod. Not your fault. I feel better now. smiley - smiley

Grammatical points to follow.

I think that problem is going to be with us for a while - the articles which were previously already registered in the queue will be recommended again in this list, by researchers who are keen to see the successful inclusion of what they've probably already been waiting a while to see.

It's hardly your fault either, Amy, although I acknowledge it is a bit of a pain...smiley - tongueout Try not to mutter too loud, you might disturb the PTB (or else just shock everyone else out of their respective lethargies - and we couldn't have that!)...smiley - bigeyes

Ahem, yes, sorry, I must learn to check whether an article is already in the other queue BEFORE I read and comment.

I'll email the grammatical errors to you if I can find an email address.

It's mostly verb tenses, hyphens, usual stuff.

Send it via the Scouts group - hypog@scouts etc. If that doesn't work try [email protected] .

I hope I've already got the errors in hand, but I like to know what's catching other people's attentions...smiley - smiley!

Hypoman.
Nothing to add, just the already made suggestions re: the links to other Edited pieces, rock-wise. As Amy observed, a couple of grammar / typo's....but the good ol' Subs can get stuck in.
As a point of interest, how DO you access the 'old' system and check that the piece isn't already being processed - or have I missed that somewhere along the line?

There are two emails from MM on the scouts site listing the articles already entered for the old system. But the easiest way is to click on the name of the author and check their Guide Entries. If it says "submitted" or "pending" then it's already somewhere in the system.

Go to armagod's homepage, and you'll see that it says "recommended" next to this entry. It is already in the queue, on a subeditor's desk, most likely.

I'm sorry about that, I was just looking to expedite the process of getting the articles in to the edited guide.

Well, if a sub-ed has their hands on the article, guess I won't mess with it now!! All I wanted to mention was Mutt's role as producer - he's produced AC/DC and co in the past, and he's most recently produced albums for Bryan Adams and Shania Twain, and one-off songs for Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Celine Dion and The Corrs. He's married to Shania Twain. smiley - smiley

Don't worry, my man, I got it...smiley - smiley! This article will quite shortly be 'pending' instead of its current 'recommended', I think.smiley - winkeye

Excellent!

One other tiny nugget. The song "Pour Some Sugar On Me" is featured in its entirety in the new movie (out in the US already) Coyote Ugly.

Think four scantily dressed women - one of whom is Tyra Banks -dancing in a bar (on the bar!) gyrating away for five minutes. You get the idea.
