I could spend the time it would take to learn Klingon conversing with my Dutch, Flemish or French friends and learn a language which might come in handy one day. Or I could go to the gym. What's the point?

The reason is because it is something that one can do. Like knowing all the rules to a game. Also from what little I know this is hard and therefore a challenge for someone to learn and master.

Well, you took the time to read the entry! Or did you just see the title and decide to come here to mock the researcher? If so, that makes you an unpleasant person and one whom I hope I never meet. So there.

I read the article!
But uh, like Zis Guy, I probably won't be learning Klingon in a hurry. Deabolik, I think I might learn Chess or French, neither of which I already know, and both of which I could put into practice one day. Besides, I think I might have trouble practicing Klingon with other people who speak it (also French, but I'm hoping that'll be a little easier ) I did think it was an awfully cool idea for an article tho.

Yeah, it seems a little pointless to me as well. But we're not being asked to learn it, it's just here if we wanted to. Come to think of it, I can't stand Star Trek either - I find it strangely patronising. But if it's your thing - cool. I'm off.

Well, there are a lot of things in this world that are considered by some to be a complete waste of time. As a student of languages, I find the concept of learning Klingon interesting even if I have doubts that I will ever do it. Spanish and French are tough enough! The point is what may be an utter waste of hours to you could be fun and incredibly worthwhile to another. Do you golf? Watch football? Read romance novels? Think about it.
