smiley - laughYeah it was pretty scary. Actually the Shining is one of my favourite films, so it's appropriate that Sporkocattus should have said, redrum

haven't read book, only seen film. If you read the book and then see the film, can be disappointing. I always think a film should be about being a film, and say something new.

One of my favourite examples of this is Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. The film, directed I think by Jane Campion, brings out the power of the relationships between the female characters, which is done more subtly in the book. I love both the book and the film..sorry if I'm rambling off topic here, but it's very early in the morning and I can't sleep!smiley - smiley

rambling's fun. Hi Sporky. I'm letting him out on his own now, he's suddenly grown a lot. i built a Sporky flap for him to come and go as wishes, (you know like a cat flap)

Although I enjoyed the film Lord of the Rings, I thought it was just a literal translation of the book which annoyed me a bit!

If LOTR hadn't been a faithful telling of the book rabid Tolkienites would have descended en masse and devoured the director.

Funny,I was going to devour the director for missing Tom Bombadillo, and then I saw the insertation of Legalos's cool skateborading trick, so I wasn't that upset.

You're right. Films are separate entities. smiley - rofl

I thought Gollum was done really well, extremely repulsive and sinister; yet there was still that poignancy in his relationship with Frodo, cos only Frodo understood how the evil power of the ring had corrupted Gollum!
