A Conversation for Talking Point: Funniest Films

The Triplets of Belleville

Post 1

This animation, written and directed by Sylvain Chomet, is wildly creative and somewhat hard to describe. With virtually no dialogue, the story is told vividly through the artwork and the music. The plot involves a Tour de France cyclist kidnapped by gangsters, with his grandmother and faithful dog in hot pursuit. They run into the title trio, who are aging jazz era divas with some ... odd culinary habits. You may never look at frog legs the same.

But its the spectacular artwork that is most impressive. I recall hearing that one of the city scapes is 15 - 20' tall, for a long camera pan top to bottom.

(It has other titles, e.g. Belleville Rendez-Vous in the UK)
