h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

is a little known film made by George Harrison's Handmade films starring Michael Caine, Billy Connerly, Leonard Rossitar and Fulton Mackay.
The plot is basically this, Michael Caine is the governor of Carribean Island Cascara, Billy Connerly is the Che Guevara type liberation movemnt known as the Singing Rebel who will not speak until he can say 'Cascara is free', Britain decideds to close it down and use it as a nuclear waste dump, they send Sir Malcome, Leonard Rossiter, to break the news, the Governor and the Singing Rebel team up to try and change the goverments mind, The American's who are filming a TV advert at the disused oil well accidently discover Perrier and suddenly the whole world wants to get it's hands on Cascara's water, if you can still get hold of it it's worth a look

Aw...Handmade Films was a great company wasn't it? Good old George.

The off camera Maggie Thatcher is also very good in this film.
..and the swimming stroke dance for the Cascara national anthem that represents the many ways peopel came to the island.
Good film.

I liked it when Sir Malcom told Mrs T how much revenue would come from the well and she throws the letter opener at him, Maureen Lipman played a good Mrs T in that, it's a shame that the film never got the recognition it deserved

Plenty of recognition in our house (see Dunx above). I'm particularly fond of the weather forecast. I'm beginning to suspect the Hong Kong observatory of operating the same way - just look out the window: yesterday's forecast was 10 degrees adrift, but corrected at mid-day

I think it's like that here sometimes instead of going "it's hoooooooooooooooooooooooot and windy" they say "It's cooooooooooooooooooooooold and windy"
