Shatner's books ...
The Artist Formerly Known as Nerd42 Started conversation Oct 12, 2005
At some point in one of William Shatner's Star Trek books ... I'm not sure which ... Spock mind-melds with Piccard (I think) and it is revealed that V'ger was actually part of the Borg Collective.
Quite simply, what would the Borg do with an assimilated space probe? The same thing we'd do with an unassimilated space probe - take pictures of other planets. Having the information these pictures would provide would be useful to the Borg in their efforts to assimilate the planets.
Thus, V'ger, whose "creator" was the Borg.
but of course, Shatner's books aren't part of the official Paramount Star Trek cannon... Nerd42

Yeah, I know the book you mean. It was The Return or something, wasn't it?
In the book the Romulans are woreking with the Borg and stick a chip in the head of the dead Kirk to revive him and something later comes out about the Borg and V'Ger's connections. Can't really remember the details coz it's ben a while since I read it.
Just put in info from various sources.

Never thought of it like that, but I can see what you mean. Should get them to stick pointy ears on it and it definately would be.
Definately has the eyebrow thing going on.....

Well I supose striving to better yourself is a good thing. Though don't think I'd want to be assimilated to achieve perfection. Don't think it'd work.
As Data said, "Believing oneself to be perfect is often a sign of a dellusional mind."

Do the Borg believe themselves to be perfect? I thought they were trying to /achieve/ perfection ... not that they already claimed to embody it.

You not seen the film First Contact? The Borg Queen certainly seemed to have a bit of an ego.
What was it she said.....? "By assimilating other species into our Collective, w4e are bringing them closer to perdection."
Suppose that could be seen either way.

er ... yeah ... the Borg believe they are closer to perfection than anybody else but I'm not sure whether they're stupid enough to reguard themselves as already perfect or not
