Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.
There are a number of different treatments used for multiple sclerosis. There is good evidence that intravenous steroids can be given during an episode and that this helps the patient get over that episode quicker. There is no evidence that intravenous steroids help the overall prognosis however.
Another treatment thought to be of use in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis is beta-interferon. There continues to be some controversy over the use of this however. In the UK, the National Institute of Clinical Excellence are currently reviewing the medical literature to decide whether beta-interferon should be used.
