Don't know much about luck, but this article appeared on the front page of the Los Angeles Times this morning.

It was interesting enought that I did a site search of "St. George, flag" and your article was listed first.
It talks about the resurrgence of the displays of the flag of St. George during the World Cup and now, following it, how it might be seen as a rebirth of "Englishness". Covers a lot of other territory as well; interesting to read.

Hi
Just happened on this thread. I thought you might be interested that I penned a piece for my journal on the rise of Englishness and the recapture of the Flag of St George a few weeks back.
It was just after signing on to h2g2 for the first time so I was looking for something to test out how things worked. I think it was just after Paula Radcliffe had won her gold at the Commonwealth Games so I was a bit carried away with nationalistic fervour - I've calmed down a bit now!
It struck me that the commentators were trying very hard to call the English English and the Scots, Scots etc. which was an improvement on previous occaisions when the Scots would be called British when the won anything. Anyhow I think we were thinking along the same lines but would welcome an exchange on whether this is now going to die down or is the start of something.
