Are the Dance Hall Crashers really Ska? I've got their album Purr - but I'm probably wrong.
As for Ska-punk, I really reccomend the Voo Doo Glow Skulls - great!

Music classification is one of life's great imponderables. In many ways this is a more modern case of the Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band's "can the blue man sing the whites ?".
Tower records display the Dance Hall Crashers in the Ska section - so you may well be right.

DHC is very much a ska band, they just don't use the horn section anymore. The core of ska music is that backbeat, with the guitars emphasizing the 2nd and 4th beats, and this is something you definitely hear in DHC tunes. They had a horn section in the beginning, and their album The Old Record is filled with groovy ska tunes with horns in the background. It's their only one with them, but I dig their style even without them.

DHC is one of the greatest ska bands. Although their latest album lacks more than just horns. It lacks some talent too. But I would highly recomend getting their older albums.
