A Conversation for Project: Meteor Showers
meteors mightbe safe, but...

I thoroughly agree that the sort of things you see in meteor showers are usually safe, but you should point out if you are mentioning tunguska that it was not a meteor, but an asteroid, and it produced an air burst explosion equivalent to an a-bomb, flattenning all of the trees in a two thousand mile radius. If it had arrived four minutes earlier it would have wiped moscow of the map, and we are overdue for another one of the same size. This is the reason that [url removed by moderator]the spaceguard uk project got set up. After all, we are running out of places where you can do a space launch from, and it only needs a 500 mile radius for safety. We are also overdue for a decent sized comet impact as well.
