Hi Sho,
thought you may be interested in this. Interesting building, right on the cliff, a bit derelict but they want to knock it down. If you remember St. Hildas, do sign.

Thanks Alec. I was born in Shiregreen (the [in]famous Flower Estate) and my grandparents lived in Wincobank for many many years with their allotment in Firth Park I think we pretty much cover the area.
I hope they manage to keep it.
(I passed it on to my mum, she'll galvanise her daft mates)

ah...yes, that was kind of intentional. My mum grew up there (1917...right where Wincobank Avenue meets Shiregreen Lane)
and told me how there used to be a village green with a duck pond and farms and horsies and so on.
Country life which she saw change into something more like Sarumans' vision for the Shire.
When I was at school in the 50s, we used to have to sing 'Jerusalem'. ...for me, those 'dark satanic mills' were actually on the number 4 bus route on the way to Attercliffe, Brightside, Shiregreen and Wincobank.
The hammers and the furnaces ran day and night.
St. Hilda's was my mums church, married my dad there.
Any of your mums mad mates you can rally to stop the 'developers' from knocking this down would be appreciated.

satanic mills indeed
when I took to the house where I was born (bearing in mind he grew up in one of the "rougher" parts of Middlesborough
) he said "bloody hell, it's like Beiruit up here" (mind you they'd started knocking down all the lovely old council houses then.
Good luck with the campaign. It's a bloomin' ugly building, but it's our building...
