I think this topic has already been discussed, but I've got a problem. I'm in love with this girl that I've known for about a year and a half now. She is one of the four people I've known for more than a couple months that go to my college. She is also a good friend. In fact, she is the best friend I have here. The highlight of my day is passing her on the sidewalk and saying 'Hi.' I just can't gather enough courage to ask her out. We don't drive, so we couldn't go anywhere anyway. I'm pretty sure she has no idea how I feel nor has she considered me as a boyfriend. She always goes out with the good looking guys and is constantly saying how cute this or that guy is. I'm shaking and my palms are sweating just typing this. Please help me.
By the way, how do you know if you're a stalker?

oh dear.
i hate to be the guy to rain on the parade (no, really i do) but these situations are nearly always hopeless (I'm leaving that 1% possibility in there just to taunt you). The question that you have to ask yourself is which do you value more - the friendship of this girl, or the possibility of a romantic relationship? Because coming on all hot and heavy to a friend if she ain't interested may not irrovocably destroy the relationship, but it will definitely create a wedge. Of course, all your dreams may come true, but is it worth the risk?
I say cut your losses. Enjoy the friendship for what it is, and realise that in the end, good friends are that much harder to find then good lovers. It's probably a good idea to find someone else to go out with, if nothing else just to have abit of fun - it'll get your mind off your friend.
as for the stalker thing: there's stalking as in being around someone all the time and living for their presense - but if they don't mind you being around, then it ain't a problem. then there's stalking which involves hanging around them even though they don't want you tto, and are intimidated by your presence - this is a pathological condition, which usually involves the best seated belief that the person really does love you. Since you're worrying about it, i get the feeling you aren't the bad kind of stalker.
Anyway, ttake my advice - get some quality time away from her. Plan things that explicitly don't involve her. And stop laying convoluted plans that will result in her loving you. they don't work.
good luck

One can certainly O.D. on love, but more often you just lose your mind, and have wild delusions .... well, i do anyway.

I dabble in "wrong" thingy every now and again..
It's good while it lasts, but very hard to sustain..
I don't take drugs though, I'm not big on them.

in answer to assasin.
this is probably really obvious, but, have you got any shared interests, that only you + her share and can't you do something together to do with that interest? film, video, even? if you're the only other person who shares her interest, then she should realize you're 'special', possibly realize that you're special enough to take your relationship further. And have you been dead cool + calm + nonchalent, encouraging (like a 'friend' should), when she's been talking about her cute guys? if you're being encouraging then it's no wonder that she doesn't consider you boyfriend material. or maybe she does but doesn't show it cos you don't look like you're interested. maybe just give her a little clue to how you feel, say something just a tiny little bit more personal than you usually do + see if she notices, see how she reacts.
i've been through this too, i know how glorious, agonizing, awful + wonderful it is. you have my sympathy! (i usually just pounce on people, but i'm a girlie + they don't seem to mind).
bestest luck, hope you sort it out soon b4 you do turn into a stalker
(glad to see you've learnt how to spell 'friends')

Thank you. It's nice to know that someone out ther wants me to succeed in this relationship. Did you see what Johnny said? 1%! But that's good enough for me.
I have been dead cool, or tried to be (I wouln't say encouraging though). It may have shown through a little though. Once, she was talking about how she always dated such jerks. I asked her what type of guys she went for (IJ already knew). She said "the really cute ones", (with a little guilt in her voice). I said "Well, there you go." The problem with being a little more personal is that I have already tried. We were working on a class assignment alone in a room in the library. It was great, but I was so nervous I had to change the subject back to schoolwork. You see, there's this paradox in my head. I want her to love me forever, but I don't want to risk her never being able to speak to me again. (fovever is a strong word. I wouldn't want her to feel like she would have to love me forever it would be okay if she changed her mind. I wouldn't hold her back.) I haven't had a good opportunity to talk to her alone (or at least without her friends there) since the library.
It's not that obvious. I don't think we do.
I'm not sure what I would do if she just "pounced" on me someday when I wasn't expecting it.
Do you watch 'Friends' (ignore it if you don't (it's American))? It's the Ross & Rachel thing before they got together.
