I don't think it makes you stupid because you are just providing the means of communication. You are not making the commercials or shows that go on to the channels. The people who make the commercials are stupid not you.

Stupidity is everywhere. I work as a builder, and I see the results of stupid people every day. If they left a trail, it would be far easier to see where thay have been. Perhaps we should implant a cannister in all stupid people which leaves an identifiable trail...on the other hand, am I the only one who looks at fire doors with the big sign on the saying "This Door is Alarmed" and wonder who's been scaring them?

The advertisers aren't stupid, nor are the ad makers, the show makers, the service providers, the salespeople, the engineers . . . only the buyers.

Recumbent, you beat me to it. The ad makers are preying on the Stupid (from now on, capital S identifies them, small s is just an adjective). Now, does thinking the ad-men are stupid make one Stupid? Of course, there could always be Stupids among the ad-men, who think they're actually providing a service.

Taz, no you're not the only one. We should start a campaign for Kindness to Sensitive Doors (KSD).

My grandmother always used to say "A fool and his money are soon parted". Should we deplore the ad makers for appealing to the lowest common denominator, or our own lack of acumen and insight as a society? A person can be smart, but when in a group, the average IQ drops drastically.

P.S. A friend of mine once had a defaced sign which read "In the event of fire, do not use lift - use a fire extinguisher"
