Oh, and does this count as a recording medium that allows composition and mixing?

I first saw those magnetic word toys in college. It is sort of a manual version of the computer programs that write poetry based on very simple grammar and theme rules. Sad to say the poetry produced was not worse than a lot of "real" poetry.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Thanks Cat!
The article is longer than 2000 words so it may need to be split into different entries.
I guess the sections on videotape and computer storage can be split off. However the "future" section wraps up the whole history and would seem fragmented if shown by itself.

don't worry! Mine were longer....if there is a logical break..they will break it however....upto the editors....and your sub-editor, who should contact you soon...
If you goto Peer Review...what happens after recommended...coming up...see where your article falls...

Well the current article is only 2964 words and is not really suited to splitting up. I wanted to cover all the aspects of magnetic recording including analogue, digital, audio, video and data including the development history. I started out at less than 2000 words but peer review yielded many excellent suggestions I took up to enhance the history.

all three of my articles that have gone through are over 3000 words...they didn't get split up...

Yow! I picked this and they didn't mention that it would need to be split. The graphic will have to go, though.

JerseyJim Posted Nov 4, 2004
Yes, the graphic is fairly lame but the choices were few. I could create an original graphic for the article but it would have to be accepted and installed into the h2g2 library.

Why don't you ask to be a Community Artist as well?

JerseyJim Posted Nov 8, 2004
I would become a Community Artist if I had any drawing talent.
I'm a wiz with photographs and related derived art but h2g2 doesn't allow photographs (even those taken my me) to be used for pictures.

Gee, how lucky for you. You write an article about malaria and there just happens to be a photo of an anopheles mosquito!
Do you have to be a h2g2 bigshot to get a photo in the library? What copyright indemnity process is involved?

Maybe I wrote the entry because I *knew* there'd be a photo hanging about....
There are two ways of getting your entry 'blobbed'. The first is that you write one which makes Editor's Pick. I think I've managed this 5 times since I've been here, which equates to about 1 a year. A656804 is probably my favourite. I don't count the collaborative entries as these automatically get picked.
The second way is that they want to give a Community Artist a try-out, so they give them an old Edited entry which has been gathering dust in the vaults and ask them to compose a graphic. A418637 is a case in point.
I have *no* artistic talent whatsoever so I am forever in awe of anyone who can draw a graphic for one of my entries. It's the cherry on the icing of Editor's Pick, as far as I am concerned.
