Well, to begin with:
ect -> etc
center -> centre
throughout
And I would remove the reference to yourself; not sure if it actually breaks any rules but it just looks wrong.
But its a nice little entry, and I think appropriately sized given the size of the place. Do they still run that legendary rock club? The one that chucked out at exactly the same time as the trendy night club next door, so there was a large car park full of drunken rock fans and chavs fighting each other to get to the kebab van? That's what Yate was famous for as I remember.

kk, i shall remove said reference!
i don't know if that rock club is still about, i've heard of it, but never seen it. I'll lok into to it. If there's anything about it I'll add it!

My Mum lives up there, and I too have fond memories of that kebab van.
Is it worth noting that Yate is unoccupied for most of the time, as those who live there tend to work the week in Bristol and spend the weekend in the country?
I think you've summed up the crapness of Yate very nicely here

It gives a real vibe of the crapness of a place that isn't anywhere special and where people live just cause they live there.... Reminds me of my hometown
Think the first main paragraph, where you mention about the shops and shopping centre etc., needs to be broken up a bit and rearranged somewhat, but I is not quite sure how Maybe you could mention something about the 'culture' of the place?: I'm only guessing, but as it sounds remarkabily simular to places I've lived/where I was born, I guess the highlight of entertainment for the week for the 16 to 25ish years old, is the Friday night heavy drinking in pubs, followed by clubs, all of which you'll probalby moan about the prices and how awful the clubs are, and then the ritual kebab shop visits.... I can picture it now

hmm, yeah, that would be a good idea breaking up the bit abput the shops, thanks! and looking into the culture (tho i've never really noticed much) but i'll have a go!

I use 'culture' in its broadest sense Sure art and opera is what some people consider culture, but in these little out of the way towns and small citys, we have to make do with the Friday night boozing it up heading off clubbing followed by kebabs and drunken singing in the streets

i'll have to put in about what are the popular pubs in the area (even though i thinks thats more chipping sodbury) and if there are any clubs!

I went to Yate today. As I drove in, there was a sign saying 'Welcome to Yate - A Fairtrade Town'. What's that all about? I know what Fairtrade is, but I didn't know you could become a Fairtrade town. Worth a mention in the Entry?

Oh, and should it be titled 'Yate, South Gloucestershire, UK'?

I like that you start with a quote - perhaps you need a footnote to explain what they said about Throcking?
center (shopping and leisure) -> centRE (in fact, all the way through the entry it should be spelt with -re)
In Yate Shopping Center there was once a book shop, but there are longer any bookshops within the area since rental prices shot up. -> ...there are no longer any bookshops...
pleasent -> pleasant
There are a few things I'd like to know about Yate (well, actually I've been there so I don't. But if I were a travelling alien or something I'd want to know these things)
How do you get there? Mainline train? Airport? Bus? Rickshaw?
How far is it from other well-known places? (Bristol isn't far off, how far? what about Bath?)
Are there hotels? Any restaurants of note? Internet cafés?

I'm not sure about the value of quoting from "The Meaning of Liff". It's rather confusing for people who don't know the book (which is presumably 99% of the readership), and isn't actually about the town of Yate anyway.
If it stays in, you'll certainly need to also quote the explanation of throcking, probably in a footnote.

This could be a nice little Entry, but it appears never may have gone AWOL (or has exams).
I suggest if there's no movement at the station by the end of the month Flea Market

Kind of sorry to see this one stall out.
It was actually the quote that I liked best (I spend hours, some days, throcking - trying to get a piece of bread toasted), but it did have a certain depressively charming tone to it.
Certainly a footnote, do define throcking, would have been sufficient to settle that bit, wot? I'd even suggest that it should be a rule that any entry on a location, mentioned in Liff, should be the intro. I'd think it would be understood by at least 75% of the readers and appreciated by even more as an homage to DNA.

I certainly wouldn't agree about how many readers would understand a Meaning of Liff quote. I'd say about 1%. You seem to be assuming it is only the h2g2 regulars who read the entries. In fact most people who read the entries are not registered on h2g2, many will not have heard of Douglas Adams and this is why we try not to make it a Douglas Adams fan site.
But I'll make that point again if someone else takes this over and puts it into Peer Review.

oh and yes, I totally agree about the meaning of Liff quote...
but this entry has been here so long it's like part of the furniture, we really ought to do something with it...

I'm with Gnomon here. Although I have read quite a few DNA books, The Meaning of Liff was not among them, so any such references are completely lost on me without an explanation.
