A Conversation for Talking Point: Has Reality TV Gone Too Far?

There are 2 types of reality TV - the shows that take 'ordinary' people and give them their 15 mins (Big Brother, Survivor, Wife Swap etc) and those that do the same with 'celebraties' who are trying to revive a sagging career (I'm a celebratey...., The Farm etc). These celebraties are usually D-Listers, tarts who have slept with famous married people and sold their stories and funnily enough the once 'ordinary' people made 'famous' by other reality TV shows!
Enough already

I'd agree with that. I've watched some of the 'ordinary people' reality shows, but none of the celebrity ones, IMO they must be a bit desperate or work, *any work* to go on them.
The first reality TV show I remember watching was Driving School it was Mauren who 'shone' from that, her driving was awful, but she had a great personality and gave us a laugh.
Only others I watched are, Wife Swap and Holiday Showdown. (Unless you count Life of Grime as a reality TV show Jeez I wouldn't want some of their jobs. )
IMO Wife Swap does give the partners some home truths about the way they live, it's often not what they want to hear, and I can see that it would cause problems after the cameras have left. And I'm a bit 'uncomfortable' with children being involved, especially the younger ones. A week without one of their parents, often the 'main carer' (no disrespect meant to any fathers) must seem like a long time to them, add to that, a stranger in their parents place.
It's usually the children that 'shine' in Holiday Showdown. They try the different activities, on the whole get on better with each other, than their parents do, and enjoy the holidays offered to them, despite the adults bickering.
