A Conversation for Talking Point - Does Size Matter?
Is small or large cuter?

Yes I had a feeling that would be the case. I am not trying to be to strict with the subject, I just wanted a serious discussion of some kind, since I haven't had many recently. I should have known better than to ask of it at h2g2

I'm sorry, Dara.
If I try to be serious for a minute, I don't believe the word 'cute' is often applied to large things (except breasts). It does tend to be more or less reserved for things smaller than one.

However I have to say that most baby things are cute. Even baby elephants

Well, just to start in with the conversation. I rather think that medium sized breasts are the way to go. But I can see that's not what your trying to talk about. The only thing that can be cute in my mind is either an animal or a human. If a hmm... cell phone for instance is small, I tend to think --Wow! That cellphone is really small. I bet you he got it at The Bell Mobility Store, probably really expensive. I wonder what functions it has?-- , not "Oh my! If that cellphone was a little smaller it would be sexy!"

I don't think Cute necessarily cogitates Sexy, for example I think babies are cute, thats not sexy, puppies are cute thats not sexy either, even girls can be cute without being sexy

That was my mistake. The word I meant to chose was cute. And I personally think that cute girls are a much nicer and wiser choice than sexy girls.

Yes well its also advised to call cute girls sexy

I would go further, in my adoption of the English language, I would suggest that cute precludes sexy. Generally, cute is nice (and generally petite). Sexy is just that.
Final point (for the mo') wrt inanimate objects, I tend to use the descriptions in the same way, for example I might describe a phone as either;
i) cute - nice but not an object of my desire
ii) sexy - something I would want to own.
Question now, is that misuse of language or evolution?

I don't know about misuse of language, but I do know that the Greek and Latin language's have a much bigger vocabulary to stop this sort of conversation before it begins.

But isn't the ambiguity the best part? Without the potential for double meaning and regular use of an inelegant adjective what'd I do for my (often poor) attempts at humour? I'd have to resort back to my elephant jokes.
So, why are elephants big grey and wrinkly?

Well, the first though that went through my mind was very "in the gutter" so it shouldn't be posted here. But I'd say because they evolved from the mammath?

Then again it could be said that sometime large can be cuter, and sexier, but it takes considerable effort

While I don't think I'll ever look at my toothbrush the same way again, I have to say I go for medium size. Neither pathetically small nor large and unweildy.
