Of course it really helps if the companies actually respond to you. That way, no matter what the response is, you can at least get some feedback.

And that is one of the more irritating parts of the whole enterprise. A reply is always nice even if it's to say we've considered your application and decided against it. But just ignoring the effort shouldn't happen. Bad management.

I see it as a potential mistake if they ever want to try head hunting you in ther future. Personally I wouldn't be keen on accepting a position with someone who had ignored requests earlier and though I might accept the position I would try to make them pay more for the priviledge smiley - winkeye
