Why does no online community reveal in plain sight directions for members on how to leave the community and delete their account/membership? Do they all get kick-backs for how many inactive members they have? How do I delete my membership??? H2G2 is great, but I don't need it anymore. I want my account pulled from all BBC/H2G2 records. Thanks!!

I don't think you can delete your account completely. Why do you want to leave? If you are absolutely sure then change you nickname back to Researcher XXXXXX, delete your intro, all other articles that no-one else might find useful, delete your journals and unsubscribe from all conversations. This will be almost as good as deleteing your account. Although you could do this, I suggest you just put a message on your intro and nickname, saying that you have left and then if you decide to come back you can start again where you left off.
I'm sorry to see you go.

Hi
We do not delete old h2g2 accounts as this has implications for the structure of conversations that your old account has taken part in. However, we are able to render it inoperable by anyone else and would be willing to do this if you so wished.
Sorry to see you go!

Oh, okay. That makes sense...I understand now.
I'll think about it for a while, then decide what I want to do.
Thanks!!

Similar query. I accidentally re-registered and now have two accounts - I'd like to make on (the second one) a null account. Is that possible.

Should - in my opinion - really be one of the points in the FAQ-page itself.
And be it only in the form of 'Q: Can I delete my account/postings? A: No.'
Or is there a minimum number of people who actually have to ask the question before it qualifies?

I agree, this has been asked plenty of times, i'm sure it deserves to be an FAQ.

In my opinion it belongs on the FAQ-page no matter if _anybody_ ever asked it or will ever ask it. It's an important piece of information and the right place to put it.
Unless of course there's some hidden sense in having a whole group of people answering the same question over an over again...

If you click on 'retrieve my details' there is an option to be removed from h2g2. I have clicked on this nearly everyday since Friday 29th September. It is a matter of urgency for me, due to mental health problems, I do not want access anymore. Can I speed up the process please?

"It is always sad to loose a Researcher.
However the procedure is sending an email to the Editors. That is what the button should do.
Here is the email address < h2g2.Editorial at bbc.co.uk > replace the at with the @ symbol.
Oh and after you have canceled your account you can always create a new one and come back . "
