Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit Started conversation Apr 14, 2003
I have two researchers who have set up new accounts because of H2G2 access problems. Both of whom have asked me about the deletion of their old personal spaces.
I was under the impression that once a researcher number and entry has been created it stays in H2G2 for good. I believe I read it somewhere although I can not recall where. HOWEVER I wouldnt be doing my job right if I didn't get clarrification as I can't find where it is written.
Is it possible to remove old personal spaces? If so how?

The U-number cannot be removed because it is part of the numbering scheme. Similarly everything they have posted is also part of the database and can't be deleted as such because it links to other things. However, if they did regain access to their spaces they could delete all the contents of their nickname and pages and unsubscribe from all conversations (which would hide them). They are stuck with any messages left on their page unless more drastic action is taken as with moderation. Although it is possible for the italics to hide everything this way they are unbelievably unlikely to do so. I can't imagine how big the bribe would have to be.

Cheers SEF. Not into bribary.
They have to lump it if they cant get access through the lost passwords option.

It would be easier to just replace the intro on the old PS with a link to the new one, and set the nickname to "(Whoever) - now at U12334352". That way old links and things aren't broken.

Remember that if the access problems include lost passwords they can email h2g2 dot support at bbc dot co dot uk to try and reclaim them, so that they can use their old user numbers again.
