Ok, I've gutted the update to remove a lot of the original content.

Nice change of title/intro smiley - ok.

One thing which is not clear to me.

I have an old PC which runs XP, but which is a bit short of memory (just 512MB in fact), and which has a chip running at a rather puny 1.798 GHz. Would Vista run slower than XP on this machine, or indeed at all?

If Vista might just run, but at an actual crawl speed, then it might be worth mentioning this briefly in the new much improved introductory paragraph.

Felonious Monk - h2g2s very own Bogeyman

Hideously slower. It would probably run but be swapping all the time.

...but does anyone know if this will ever get used, or should I pull it out of Peer Review and not get the old version updated? smiley - erm

I'm not sure. It would be best if it could replace the previous version as there are some important changes.

Hi Alex - I can't see why this is being ignored. I suggest you e-mail the Eds directly or raise it in the Scouts Forum.

Ahem, now I see why all the confusion.

Alex, you just needed to follow the UpdateForum procedure.

It's all there. People just need to read things and follow instructions really. I know you all love opening the box and just banging it altogether, but this invariably leads to your coffee table looking like a VCR. smiley - tongueout

Alex, all you do is just drop a line to Editorial Feedback once everyone was happy with this Update, with the old Entry A-number, the new one and a link to this PR thread. Then all the rest is done by the Eds or Curators. smiley - ok

Oh, and for others reading;

"The Update will then incubate in Peer Review for a minimum of seven days, and once the reviewers are happy the entry is 'finished' the chief updater will post to the thread announcing it as such. An Update will not be chosen for inclusion in the Edited Guide by a Scout, like any other Entry, as it is assured that the subject covered by the update already has a place in the Guide!

Once everyone is happy, the chief updater will then remove the Update from Peer Review and post a message with the Subject line entitled;

EF: Update Notification - *insert name of entry here*

at Editorial Feedback including the A-number of their update, the A-number of the entry needing to be updated and a link to the Peer Review thread concerning the Update. A member of the in-house team or a Curator will take that information on board and will then do some final checks in pretty much the same manner as an h2g2 University Project.

It is vital that all editing is done before the entry is accepted for the update, as it will not pass onto a Sub-editor for final proofing like any other Entry that passes through Peer Review. That means that all the punctuation and grammar must be spot on, that links and GuideML be correctly inserted and that - to be quite blunt - the update is perfect.

Finally, a member of the in-house team or a Curator will copy the text, check it for the usual concerns and paste it over the old entry, complete with any new contributors. It will then make its way to the Front Page as any other new Edited Guide entry would."

smiley - cheers
