The Spice Girls were excellent! Their CD was the first I ever bought, and on my 11th birthday me and my friends dressed up as Spice Girls and made our own video. I was Emma. Oh, the shame! Equally shameful is the fact that I STILL remember every single word from every single song
Embarassing as it all seems now, growing up with the cheesy pop of the 90s was FUN. Swapping Backstreet Boys stickers every morning at school, swooning over Savage Garden lyrics, uninhibitedly screaming 'yo I'll tell you what I want what I really really want'...

I bought their CD for my teenage son, who had the hots for all of them.
He never took it when he moved out - strange that

@ Matt: at the time of the release it might not have influenced alot of bands but it certainly opend the door for alot of bands at the time, not only in the same "category" (as far as you can place them in a category) but for alot of underground crossover bands. And although bands like Pearl Jam and Nine inch Nails (not sure about that one if they didn't then they were influenced by them ) did exsist at the time they weren't able to break into the mainstream, RHCP helped with that for sure (together with Nirvana off course)
(I recall one incident where the leadsinger of a band excactly copied the moves and way of talking from AK (lead of RHCP) but thats a different story I can't remember the name of that band but they had some big hits at the time i think it was Faith No More??) .
And to name a few of the bands they influenced: (some new some old) Queens of the Stoneage , Foo Fighters, No doubt,Guns N' Roses (sounds unlikely I know but they played support act for them once before theyre big break, and Axl dedicated "Rocket Queen" to RHCP Sayin he wanted to make a RHCP song with that as result) and last but not least Korn.
Hope this helps your "scratching"
Axel

Slight correction - the 2nd time Bohemian Rhapsody was No.1 was december 1991 so yes, 4 different years but 1991 and 1992, not 1990.
