let's get started then...

Free associating... replace the 'll's by 'dg's to get Hodge Podge - a bland disorganised mishmash. The name reminds me of 'holly' and 'polly' (or maybe both), so I'd probably instinctively label the name as female, though such instincts have been wrong before, and will be wrong again. But if you are male and have been getting a lot of come-ons from guys... perhaps now you know why! smiley - winkeye

Capitalisation - two words shunted together with no spaces... so probably a relic from a site which doesn't allow spaces... which would imply someone who has a single consistent name that they use throughout the web... that implies a strong sense of self-identity, and a consistent personality throughout the various virtual realities.

no descenders, I notice. This might be someone who's not terribly grounded in reality, perhaps prone to occasional flights of fantasy. On the other hand, lots of ascenders. Yeah - I'd go for imaginative, 'floaty' type person...

What else... well, most of the letters are quite common, combine that with 'Holly' and 'Polly' - fairly bland names - and 'HodgePodge' - I don't think this is someone who is trying to jump up and down and draw attention to someone... a more... understated approach. Yes intelligent (the nice word rhyming points to that), yes imaginative, but no, not going to shout it from the rooftops.

Can't think of anything this late at night - that'll have to do... smiley - biggrin

Thank you!

I am male (and I am German, by the way). I don't fully understand that descenders and ascenders paragraph. Could you explain it to me a little more?

Have you looked at my personal space before you gave your analysis? Or, maybe afterwards? Would this have changed (or will it) your mind on anything?

Merry Christmas, smiley - xmastree

Acenders are letters like 'l', 'h', and so forth - taller than 'o'. Descenders are letters whch go lower than an 'o', like 'g' or 'p'. That help any? smiley - smiley

I never look at personal pages before name analysing - that'd be cheating, and I'm a good boy... doing so would just be homespace analysing - an entirely seperate skill... smiley - smiley

How about my username?

Not much to go on? Or more than enough?

Hmm - "KC" - certainly not a lot to go on... and I don't even gain the benefit of multiple usernames...

The obvious first conclusion is that KC is the initials of the user's name - and since 2001 is the year of wildly unjustified guesses, I'm going for Kent Clarke. Do I win?

*pauses*

Hang on - wasn't that superman's alter-ego? Of course, there are thousands of names starting with KC - so it's most likely just a co-incidence, but lets go with it and see if it flies... "KC" then, is some guy who is outwardly ordinary, but has hidden star qualities and save-the-world abilities. Or, looked at another way - it's someone who is wearing a mask - a disguise. And in this case, the disguise is *again* disguised by converting it to an acronym - two levels of deception.

Leaving aside wild flights of fantasy, some defeat must be admitted - the name is a good mask, because it reveals very little. Does make me wonder why the user wishes to reveal so little. Is this someone who's previously been faced by discrimination on who he is, or what he looks like? Someone disabled, or the wrong race or sex in a discriminatory country? Could be...

Another reason might be that here on h2g2 the user has, or plans to, talk about some fairly close to the heart stuff - and doesn't want his or her real-world friends getting hold of it - which is a very common sentiment, and half the reason usernames or 'handles' came into being in the first place. It also means one can be more relaxed about what one says when under an assumed name. Is this the reason?

Another possibility comes when you pronounce the name: KC - Casey. Aha - it's the actor from Dawson's Creek, who doesn't want his h2g2 account to be swamped by autograph seekers and junkies! or not...

There's little else I can get, myself. Capitalisation is normal for initials. It's a short name, so this may be someone who's a little more blunt - and/or someone who knows that most names get abrreviated quickly anyway (eg, MRD) so can't be bothered.

So there we have it - a masklike exterior hiding red underpants and an impractical looking cape. Do I win? smiley - winkeye

I am impressed - very perceptive. Both the reason for the name (Casey) and the reason for the choice of name (mask). Star-like qualities...I'd be arrogant to comment. smiley - winkeye . Which is a comment in itself.

Were I The Caledonian, I'd *bow honourably*. But I'm not, so I'll limit myself to shaking your virtual hand. smiley - smiley
