How else are we to control the surplus of Campbells out there?

Aquote file is a good idea. It should be in the library, like any good reference. Who wants to be in charge of it?

Back to the butternut squash question--I think it was from Ag:
Any squash plant, winter or summer, can take over a garden, so unless you really love squash (like I do) you should probably only plant one. I should think covering them at night would be fine, just make sure you uncover them during the day so they can receive the last of the warm sun this time of year. If they are close to ripeness or the size you're looking for, cut them off the vine and store them in a cool dry dark place to age properly. I'm sure Hyp has even more information, her being the Cranky Gardener and all.
Butternut squash soup is divine.

If done right! I find too many butternut squash soups waylaid by overzealous use of carrot, ginger or potato (a true one has neither carrot or potato if you ask me *sniff*)

Methinks another church (albeit small, sparcely attended and unaffiliated) is in order.

Kelli, winter squashes such as butternut need a long growing season. And once ripe they need to cure on the vine for a bit and then for another 4-6 weeks when picked. I hope they will go ahead and ripen for you, but I rather doubt it. A row cover might work. It's worth a try.
As colorful as the Missouri Campbells are, I doubt if they are the targets for the survivalists. At least not the specific targets. (Sorry to ruin you image of a McDonald/Campbell feud in the Ozarks, Mr. D.) The survivalists in McDonald County are very well armed, fundamentalist Protestant types who hate (and would enjoy killing) just about everyone except themselves. They are racists, homophobes, sexists, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-Catholic, anti-government, anti-education Neanderthals. Sorry if that is an insult to the Neanderthals.
I don't spend a lot of time in McDonald County and feel sorry for the ordinary, sensible folks who live there. It is an absolutely gorgeous region and it's a shame that people like that have moved in and set up compounds. They selected the area because it is hilly and wooded and is a good place to go to ground if necessary. They don't have social security numbers, don't pay taxes, are as much out of the system as is possible in 2005. They farm, have wells, windmills, cisterns, etc., have their own schools, their own churches, and work odd jobs for cash to buy weapons and miscellaneous odds and ends. They also barter a lot for what they need.
Now you know more about McDonald County than you wanted to.
I probably won't be posting again until late Sunday or maybe Monday afternoon. I have unexpected guests on the way. I hope everyone has a pleasant weekend. *waves*

I have 4, possible 5 tests next week. Anyone care to guess what I am doing most of this weekend?

I feel sorry for the women and children trapped in survivalist compounds. Their very existence is defined only as an extension of the goals of their masters--the men who run such groups.

Hypatia, I think taking over really lovely areas is the goal of survivalist groups. There's a couple in Michigan that have some stunning views, and until fairly recently, Richard Butler and his gang of thugs (all hail Morris Dees for ridding us of this pestilence) had some really pretty land in Idaho.
My workshop materials are all ready to go, go, go. Very happy about that, I must say. My back's a little wonky from collating everything, but it's done.
Now, of course, I just have to actually run the thing. Shouldn't be too hard, right? Right.
