Well, if we hadn't done that you'd never have repainted it. "Mucky Beige House" doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?

I think we should find that tea and return it. You could serve it at one of the Queen's garden parties.

"I think we should find that tea and return it."
Perhaps we should send the Queen something fresher, in the interests of international good will.
Years ago, I moved into an apartment that had an overdue video left in a cupboard. Should I have kept it to avoid snubbing the library?

Apparently the pilot who landed the plane on the Hudson wrote to his library to apologise for losing one of their books. He'd taken it to work with him That Day. The book was about Business Ethics. Well, you'd feel obliged to, wouldn't you.

Smashing fellow, that pilot. I liked him from the minute I saw him after the crash. This sort of ices the cake.

What an all-around good guy!
Wow, apparently this loan of the Churchill bust has been a problem for years, no matter who was in the White House. Apparently Blair didn't really have the right to send the bust to Bush in the first place, as the bust belonged to the British taxpayers, not to Blair.

Why change the habit of an administration? Blair's entire administration was based on taking liberties he had no right to take and rimming.

"Those who are willing to sacrifice their basic liberties to assure their security deserve neither."
--Benjamin Franklin
Sadly, with the so-called "Patriot Act" and other such provisions, the previous administration took away our civil liberties without asking whether we wanted to sacrifice them. And we are no more secure. Looks like y'all had the same thing going on your side of the Atlantic.

What psychologists call a "folie a deux", each one agreeing with the other about weapons of mass destruction, the victory that wasn't and intelligent design.
I'd rather have a US president who was cool to us than one marching arm-in-arm with us to destruction.

Obama is a more widely read man than GW Bush. Perhaps he would have liked a bust of the Bard, or Oscar Wilde better?

AG Mukasey had a portrait of George Orwell in his office. How scary is that?!

Seems reasonable to me.

Oh, that's one of those remarks I can't understand because I don't have enough context. Why is that scary, Lil? It's years since I read any of Orwell's non-fiction, (*counts them* *decides not to say how many*).
Expound. Expand. Explain!

Because Orwell invented Newspeak. And Newspeak was something the previous administration excelled in, particularly when it came to naming legislation. The Clean Skies Act, for example, rolled back environmental protection regulations to favor factories with carbon emission problems. Other Amurricans here can no doubt supply other laws with like names.

Though, to be fair, Orwell was definitely on the "anti" side of Newspeak.
