From a decision just handed down from SCOTUS, concerning a man who served 18 years in a Louisiana prison, 14 of them on death and who was then pardoned when it came out that the DA, one Harry Connick (no reltion), had buried exculpatory evidence:
Justice Clarence Thomas, writing for the 5-to-4 majority in Connick v. Thompson, said the D.A.’s office was not liable for failing to train its lawyers about their duty under the Constitution to turn over evidence favorable to the accused.
What's that I see peeping out from under those black judicial robes? Bright orange clown shoes?

I think there is a relation, actually:

That statement astounds me. The gall!

Swedish news about the current presidential campaigns are mainly focused on how amazingly incorrect statements are made. Latest one mentions Michele Bachmann wanting to close the US embassy in Iran. Ooops...

Lil, have you heard whether or not Gary Johnson is jumping ship to the Libertarians? The Republicans won't even invite him to the debates, so I can't see how he is benefited by staying.

I don't understand what he's doing in the race, quite frankly, unless it's to sell tickets to the ongoing debacle of Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachman. Newt is in a class by himself -- the Fat Lady in the side show. Turning tricks on the side while extolling virtue on stage.

This in from Jon Huntsman, “We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption.”
Of course that begs two questions.
1) Why does a man who wants any woman's vote refer to a person who may be the victim of sexual harassment as a 'bimbo'?
2) Which one of the other contenders does he think is capable of discussing a real issue? Every time they open their mouths wildly inaccurate statements fall out.

I looked up Michele Bachmann, thinking she might be too young to remember the revolution in Iran - and found that she's 7 years older than I am. And since I can remember it clearly, so should she. From a European point of view, it got a lot of media attention.

I'm fairly sure Bachman is there to make some of the other candidates appear to be comparatively viable.

The entire field is lacking. It's depressing to think that this is the best a major party has to offer.

What never ceases to amaze me is the gall of these people. How can you even consider running for president when 'intellectual incapacity' is practically stamped on your forehead? Stupidity? Hubris? A combination of both?

The very idea of Herman Cain meeting the president of Russia and saying, "Becky becky becky stan stan!" is inconceivable.
Fortunately it's not going to happen.

In a perverse kind of way, I want Gingrich to make the race.

My hope is that if Gingrich makes it, it'll be an easy choice for swing voters. And moderate Republicans - people I respect deeply - might make a decision to reclaim their party from the radicals.

According to polls, the popularity of the Tea Party is tanking. So perhaps we can all hope for what you said.

Let's hope so. I like the new confrontational course Obama's trying out. I think his arguments drive right at the heart of things without being populist.
