I'm sure several Mericans would have a small heart attack if they knew the shear rubbish of instant coffee that I drink to get warm caffine into my system.

Incidently it's powder, not granules, and it's very very cheap. It also tastes nothing like coffee, but does raise my heart rate by around 10bpm, and keeps me awake so it contains caffine.

Nothing - not even Happy Shopper instant powder - is as awful as bad American coffee. Fortunately these days there is also good American coffee although t'was not always so.

Well, don't tell anyone, but my favourite cup of tea is PG made in a large mug with lots of milk and some sugar. smiley - yikes Or Roibosh with soya milk, which sounds disgusting but tastes lovely. Or spiced Chai with hot milk and sugar. Or jasmine with chinese food. Or green tea with japanese food....

*sigh*

But enough of that fancy stuff. PG, milk and sugar. smiley - tea rules!

Hey now. The big commercial coffe is horrid, but the RoCo has been around for decades and is excellent (IMHO). Instant Coffee is a sin on the order of Decaff coffee or the crap that they serve at my church.

Happy Shopper Instant powder is nothing compared to Aldi instant. I do draw the line and Kwik Save coffee powder that my parent's have, the stuff comes in a sachet not a jar and tastes like mud.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

Ben, water filters are available in the US. Truth to tell, I can't tell the difference.

I too have committed the instant coffee sin. Many, many times. Now I just drink diet coke.

Z- your heart rate goes to 10 beats per minute? Isn't that really slow? Were you joking?

smiley - doh Indeed what I meant to say was that it goes up by ten beats a minutes, from around sixty five to around seventy five. smiley - blush

I read it that way anyway Z. I thought it made sense the way it was!

Of course, I can hardly even see at the moment, for some reason my eyes feel like I've been swimming in a heavily chlorinated pool for hours.

smiley - yikes I don't drink smiley - tea or smiley - coffee but I'm told that at least I can make a decent cup of tea. MC normally uses looseleaf teas and has several caddies in the kitchen for differening moods, from strong assam to get that early morning hit through spiced chai and down to more mellow stuff like jasmine or green leaf teas. The brewing method though uses a chatsford cup, strainer and lid (lets the tea brew for a cup and then you lift out the strainer taking all the leaves with it). There is also a chatsfor tea pot ( http://www.fineteas.com/chatsford.html ) but as that's for more than two cups at a time normally it's made by the mug full.

ISPs and Cups of Tea? You are a useful guy to know, Phil!

I haven't drunk coffee since late 2000, when a glass of Irish coffee woke me up after 1 hour's sleep, and kept me awake for the rest of the night. I actually spent the night here on h2g2, as I recall.

The more I think about it, the more I want a French Press and a hand grinder. Coupled with some good beans, the right kit makes an excellent cup of coffee.

Hmm, now that Witty is getting my favourite beans, I will have to drive downtown to get some myself. The housemate who drinks coffee is content with crap no-name grounds.

I am stunned, smiley - tea made in the microwave? I do admit to making my morning cuppa with a PG Tips One Cup bag, pouring the milk in, then the boiling water. But for visitors it's always made proper-like. I have seperate pots for different teas, otherwise the flavour gets contaminated. Green tea, I also make in the cup, but the water is just off the boil otherwise it is too hot for the delicate little leaves. I was reading today in that fount of all knowledge, my Daily Comic that smiley - tea both green and black helps to protect against ovarian cancer.

This is one 'Murican who can make a decent cup of tea. F drinks tea with his breakfast and dinner. I have a Rockingham tea pot - brown - and use loose tea and strain it like a proper Englishman. smiley - tongueout As to electric kettles - what's the point? The water heats just as fast in a stove-top kettle. And you don't have a cord in your way.

Instant coffee? The only instant coffee I use is the International flavors. I like the Irish Mocca and the Cafe Vienna. But I don't make them with water. I make them with hot brewed coffee. smiley - ok

I'm trying to think of a way to mainline coffee. Nothing smells as good as feshly ground coffee beans. Except maybe bread baking.

Did you know you can use a bread machine to make jam?

Well Hyp, you need an IV bag, stand, and a steady hand at finding a vein. However, your body just might rebel at pure coffee getting in to the system without being filtered by the ole' filtering system we call a digestive tract.

You can always take coffee as an enema, but I doubt that you wanted to know that...
