Honestly, I'm not happy about the whole Kerry ticket, regardless of who's on there for VP.
Then again, I'm still all for "Anyone but Bush 2004"....even Sporky's dog.

Shame the dog didn't get it Sporky.
Anyhoo. Kerry v Bush v Nader is now the line up to be comfirmed at convention this Summer. The race is afoot. Will the incumbant manage to retain power, or are there enough nagging doubts about his handing of the economy and even foreign affairs to demand change?
General elections in the UK last 3-5 weeks take your seats for the next 8 months.

And the sub-question is, is the the American electorate for sale? The Bush campaign thinks so.

(let me finish)
One Vote, one vote for sale
Not very much
Doesn't make much difference
Except in Flori-DA!!!!

I don't know how much money the republicans had in prev elections with respect to the democrats. In this election, right now, the difference seems daunting. I'm also afraid of a Dukakis repeat...

Look, Shrub is trying to run on his record. What record? Record deficit? Record numbers of people losing their jobs to outsourcing outside the US? Record numbers of tax breaks for people making more than half a million a year? Record number of people who hate Americans simply because they're Americans? Record number of soliders killed in the last 40 years?
What record, exactly, is he running on? Because the above doesn't seem to bode well for him.

He's running on fear and ignorance. His first ad has an image of the ruins of the World Trade Center.

The American populace has reason to be afraid, Shrub is the cause of that fear.

I know MR, I know. I'm just trying to remain aware about how dangerous this election is. There are plenty of people who can still vote for Bush, convinced it's the right thing to do. Those are the people who see Kerry as another Dukakis. How many of them are out there, and how motivated are they?

Wht's this rumour I hear that Hillary Clinton is interested in VP. Would that run on that side of the pond?

tough call...I think that's a bad idea at this point. There is a tremendous amount of Clinton hatred in this country - the republicans hate that the clintons did so well. It would only serve to motivate the republican base to get out and vote against the dems.
If the name of the game is motivate your own base, de-mobilize the opposition, then H Clinton as VP would have the opposite effect, IMHO.

what i meant was it would have the opposite of the desired effect for the democrats.

We haven't had a woman V.P. yet. We've had one candidate so far, Geraldine Ferraro, on a Democratic ticket which lost the election.
I think that the Democrats think it is too important to win this upcoming election to risk putting a woman on the ticket. Any woman.

I would have to agree with that assessment. I have heard talk of Hillary running in 08 if Kerry doesn't get the nod this year.

too risky. Honestly, I think it will be Edwards to get the south in on the voting. Dems are going for Kerry instead of riskier candidates like Dean or Clark. Play it safe, and then try to fix things.

I heard that the Mid West is the key to this election and Kerry may look for a strong VP candidate from that area.

I would say that the entire country is key to this election.

Of course it is GDZ but the major battelground will all be in the MId-Western States so Kerry may which to shore up some support there.

The tough states are always Florida, California, and Pennsylvania. New York can swing either way which is kind of disappointing.
Hilary has no interest in being a VP - her eye is on the prize ('08).
