Which state does Dennis Hastert represent? We may have a vacancy there shortly.

Isn't he from Indiana?

My congressman is Roy Blunt who will win reelection easily. He is extremely popular here and has a weak opponent. So that Republican seat is secure. smiley - sigh

No need. Apparently the North Koreans will be testing their nuke soon...and volunteered to be the test target. smiley - erm

Ministry of Truth Department: Fox News is labelling Mark Foley as D-FL, i.e., as a Democrat. Screenshot at http://www.bradblog.com/?p=3570

Lil, that link doesn't work.

But nothing surprises me anymore. I don't even let myself hope that this will work in the Dems favor.

It's already being spun that poor ole Foley was an alcoholic, and molested by a clergyman. Interesting that that's now considered a pass. For sure, it's those horrible Dems making a huge thing out of this. Already saw someone saying, "What's the big deal? It's only electrons. Noone got touched." Funny, I seem to recall people with the same m.o. getting computers confiscated and jail time. Silly me.

They can't have it both ways, one thinks. If Foley really were a Democrat, he would not be Chairman of a committee to further protection of children from internet predators because Democrats are shut out from control of any committee in Congress. If he were a Democrat, the fundies would be on the steps of the Capitol Building with torches and pitchforks. But all we're hearing from the religious right spokesmen (and I use 'men' advisedly) is chirping crickets.

Isn't it a shame that hypocrites don't turn a bright fuschia or some other color? I saw the new spin about Foley being abused and I wanted to hurl. Trying to turn him into the victim is just outrageous.

Also, accusing the democrats of leaking the relevant emails is another line of cr*p. NPR reported yesterday that the emails were released by the interns they were sent to.

Bombing Iran? I wouldn't put it past him and it scares the bejeezus out of me to even think about it. Of course, the guy is such a military genius I wouldn't put it past him to commit us to another couple of fronts (Iran and N. Korea) to spread our already disastrously spread thin military even thinner.

The link worked for me.

Perverts have no particular political affiliation! And just as too many people do, they do not take responsibility for their transgressions.

I love it - The blind have successfully sued Target Stores for not making their website accessible to the blind.

I can not tell you off hand where this is - but, one school made the blind take drivers education before they could graduate. Which might explain why you might find Braille on drive thru ATM's.

So as best as I understand it, please correct me if I got it wrong, the guy who shot the thirteen girls did it because of something he fantasized 20 years ago. Perhaps Mr. Foley is not so bad - He didn't shot his victim(s). I heard that the pages are routinely warned to watch out for this rep, that rep, that rep, etc. Is it only in one party or not?

Vote for Monica. She believes she has more to offer than Hillary. If you aren't sure, make an appointment and she will do something for you to get your vote. Don't all politicians?

I'm very dissapointed in this thread. So Foley sends some disgusting e-mails to 16 year old pages. So What?

In the meantime there are 125,000 American nineteen-year olds staked out in the desert like sacrificial goats with their hands tied by "rules of engagement". 3,000 of them are dead already.

In June and July alone 3,000 Iraqis civilians were murdered. Many of the were found tortured with bound hands...some were abducted from hospitals by police that we trained and spirited away in ambulances to be tortured to death.

Who cares about Foley...is this a serious thread or just prurient interest?

So what you're saying Phred is we should give Foley a pass because you think there are more important issues? What's the harm of a little perversion, hey? I happen to think that weakenking the Republican Party's hold on Congress next month will make those servicemen and women a hell of a lot safer than they are now. Besides, I didn't realize there was only one issue of importance in the political arena.

so do you believe it to be okay that the bulk of our politicians on both side of the fence are morally corupt and not worth discussing? The only subject that matters is death and destruction. I assure you that will not go untouched. The subject about Foley was not just about him but what was known by his colleagues and how long have they allowed him his perversion.

As I understand this thread, the subject at hand is the election which not only be about what is happening in Iraq but other subjects as to why one candidate will make a best selection over the other candidate. The candidates position on the war will probably play loudly as to why he should or should not be voted in.

Phred- I agree that there are more important issues than the Foley thing. Frankly, I'm looking forward to this thread moving on to something I can speak intelligently about myself. The thing is though, that as disgusting as this may be, this is part of politics, and that's exactly what this thread is about. How this situation plays out is going to be fairly important this November.

No, it isn't just Foley's behavior in itself. It's what Hypatia said, the balance of power in Congress after November 7 that will make it possible to rescue our troops from a terrible arrogant blunder, rescue our environment from blind corporatist greed, rescue the elderly from Medicare D, rescue our international reputation and restore some kind of fairness to the tax code. This thread is a sequel: all the issues I've just mentioned have been discussed at length before and will doubtless come up again. I hope that, next time we do discuss them, it's to celebrate.

And gee, Mo, you haven't mentioned Chappaquiddick yet. Every time another instance of moral corruption comes up in the party currently in power, you immediately react by saying how bad BOTH sides are. My Republican neighbor does exactly the same thing. So does Sean Hannity.

Foley is not the chiefest thing on my mind: Iran and the possibility of an extremely unpleasant October surprise is. It scares the willies out of me.

Hey Lil,

the thing is I, personally, don't think that corruption of any kind is better or worse than another corruption. I've said it before, these people are supposed to be working for us not themselves.

I heard that there was a vote about the insertion of authorship of changes made to a bill such as porkbarreling insertions. Our local Senator has voted against it. Up until the last election I voted for her. But when she compared Bin Laden to our Freedom Fighters during the Revolutionary War I stopped voting for her. This last vote of hers against noting of authorship bothers me and doesn't improve her chance of getting my vote.

And lastly, sexual perversions involving minors is a corruption of morals. So if the people running our country steal our money and our rights or steal the innocence of our children -- they should be stopped.

I believe that if we want to stop corruption, we should start agitating to completely eliminate the lobbying system. No more lobbyists. Period. Not allowed. This means that even the "good" lobbies will have to cease. If you want to tell your congressperson what you want him to do, you have to do it yourself, by mail, email, phone or in person. No more people hired by PACs or Interest Groups who are paid to speak for them. I would still allow citizens to get signatures on petitions and take them to their representatives in Congress, but that would be the extent of "group" influence.
