1978 - I was 4. My brother was born that year. I don't remember it (the trauma blocked it out? ).
The song that reminds me most powerfully of my pre ten years though is 'superman' by bucks fizz. No idea when that came out, but I do remember bounding around a friends livingroom pretending to be superman. I think I probably missed the point.

In 1978, I was *gulp* 28 -- can't remember what music was on, but I remember listening to the radio a lot, and seeing a LOT of movies. IIRC, "Close Encounters" was newish then...
Speaking of movies, went to see "Who Killed the Electric Car?" -- it was *very* good, bang on to what I remember about it. Seems we (the US) made one step forward with the Electric Vehicles, then 3 steps back, when they were taken back and crushed by the various car manufacturers... Hope we can catch up with where we were 10 years ago.

My soundtrack to 1978 was an old LP soundtrack from the disney Junglebook cartoon. I *loved* that LP and knew practically every word off by heart. I was 4

What is it with Sainsbury's and animals this week?
I just went back for my first visit and there is a cat outside! Cats are never seen there normaly, just the white one that follows it owner from old peoples home next door.
This cat is what I call a cat/kitten, at that in between age. I don't think it is homeless, although hard to tell with cats. At first I thought it was mangey as thin and looked patchy, but closer inspection showed it was just whitish patches amounge its odd assorted light brown, beige fur.
Strewth, does that cat like being stroked, 20 minutes later my food was melting so had to go, it knew the whole routine to get strokes, from laying on back to zig zags betweeen legs to encourage strokes! If it doesn't have a permanent home at moment it soon will, some cats just are born to find staff to feed them.....strewth, I nearly opened up one of my tins of cat food in shopping to give it some!

I don't know how all of you do it: keep up with the conversation, contribute - and make sense.
I'm puffing behind following all the tales, news and dicussions - but hardly ever make it to the one-digit numbers in postings left. And I swear, I read every day.
But finally now.
Hello to Phred, healingmagichands, leger(s?) and 1926.
I've just tried to figure out what went on musicwise in Denmark in 1978 and also asked Sig. S. (my Italian husband who allready lived in Denmark at that time, for those of you who haven't met me yet ). Sig. S and I didn't meet until 1983.
I lived in a socialistic community then, feminism was at it's peak, and we listened to political rock - mostly Danish: C.V. Jørgensen, Jomfru Ane Band, Røde Mors Rockcirkus - with a bit of Genesis and the Swedish musician Bo Johansson thrown in - especially his 'Sagan om Ringen' (Lord of the Rings). I expect only Santra and possibly Titania to recognise the Scandinavian names.
My experiences are similar to HH's: "every one wants to feel important, and every one wants to be loved and accepted. And people tend to be more vulnerable and sensitive when they are trying out something brand new."
As you know, I had Hati (a former salonista and possibly present lurker) visiting for three days with her friend Mme F. They hitchhiked from Estonia, through Sweden, through Denmark, back to Sweden and home to Estonia.
The are very fine rolemodels for vacation-procratination - very good and self-reliant guests (I had to w*rk some of the time), intelligent company - and sources of many loud laughs.
I have agreed to so much freelance w*rk that I will not be able to take a holiday before mid September, and the brain-braiseing, mind-melting weather doesn't help one bit.
Last month I rented an office in the nearby town with the idea that I might have more discipline w*rkwise if I actually went to w*rk somewhere other that my home. But I won't have time to move in before sometime mid August. I've also bought a pc notebook - but that will also have to wait....as will the beach, the garden and lying about with a good book
Good to see you all.

I don't think I caught on to C.V. Jørgensen until about '80 - never said I was quick, did I? But once I did, I certainly did! I happily quote from his lyrics at length to this day
'78? Had quite a crush on a girl from my class (no cigar, as it turned out) Was very much a teenager who didn't know which of these much-too-long legs to stand on. Slowly (late again) learning to appreciate .
Music? The disco hits, mostly. Abba, Bee Gees - as well as a band one of my mates was in. Later - ex my fried - "world famous in Denmark" as Dodo & the Dodos...
*Came home from vacation 1 yesterday. Leaves for #2 tomorrow. Has bookmarked and then skipped backlog. Will read! Sometime...*
See you next weekend - when we have a dog

It occurred to me last night as I was drifting off to sleep -- has the water main in Lincoln been mended yet? I see by the weather radar that it has been raining in N. Mex. lately.

Interesting times...
I have been away for too long time to say all greetings and goodbyes. I have been lurking and not lurking, recently full-time lurking. The Atelier definitely has its magic.
On the recent topics: congrats to the pregnant ones. I am happy you are. And I am happy I am not. The bad news is that at some point they grow up to be teenage mutant sulk-a-lots. Or maybe they don't but I haven't experienced that. I've heard some people are lucky, so I cross my fingers for you, kelli and Solnushka. Well, not full time for next 12 years, but you know what I mean.
Men in shorts: some of then look odd. I hate to be trapped in the same office with them. Other than that I think everyone has a right to look odd unless there is some regulation forbidding it (and they have agreed with it).
1978: I guess it was mostly Abba and ELO for me. Not all the music managed to sneak in my lovely homeland.
Oh, and to all of you who sent me greetings while I was at Tartaronne's. (She's a wonderful host btw, go and visit her.
)
And that's mostly it. The rest is draught, forest fires, other fire accidents and Freddy. Freddy hit me on a top speed just on the time it turned and now I am all and
.

Welcome back Hati! I hope you are feeling better soon.
Interesting night last night. A woman I know popped up online and started chatting with me, 4 hours later we were still going strong but being that is was 0230, we had to end it. We are going out this coming saturday, drinks and dancing.

Welcome back Hati as well.....
.
I think I must be losing it, I just went back to Sainsbury's just incase the kitten-cat was still sitting there looking for someone to stroke her and hungry. She had gone though, hopefully to someone who owns her, a real sweety cat though.

Hati, glad to see you here again! Nasty Freddy.
hmh, the water was turned off between 9 pm and 6:30 am this morning, because water levels in the municipal tanks had dropped to two feet. At least they know what section the leak is in, but we don't have a sophisticated enough system to be able to isolate the bad part without turning the water off completely. The water curfew will go on for the next few nights, and I keep about 8 gallon jugs filled at all times.

mikerhike - guardian of the wa, and now also of WA Posted Jul 30, 2006
went out, sat in park to enjoy sunshine (YAY!). Came home for eats. Changed and then remembered I needed to buy milk and OJ. No £20 in my pocket. Musta dropped it in park or something.
Went to shop but decided to have a quick looksee, although it's breezy, and there it was, just sitting next to the crossing. Must have dropped it when I took me keys out.
YAY!

WATER BULLETIN
The leak has been found. It was close to the well whence comes the water that fills the tanks. We are currently without water while the work is done to fix the leak.
There are professional dowsers in the county, but the board members probably wouldn't want to pay. Fortunately, the matter is now moot.
