Funnier that The Importance of Being Ernest? I'll rise to that, Munchkin. Forty pug dogs in costums is funnier.
Arl, you still have us in suspence. There's quite a story here, isn't there?

A question for all you techie meisters out there (I know I'm one myself, but I can't answer this question. )
I'm going o upgrade my computer system soon. The details are unimportant, but I'm getting an AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHz processor and a motherboard suitable for that. The motherboard says it supports DDR SDRAM at PC2100, but the recommended AMD memory page says DIMM instead of SDRAM. Is there a difference?

Morning (well more or less) all. Had a good day skivving off of work yesterday. Waking up with a cold thirty monutes before you are supposed to be to work is always a sign to just stay home.

Prof, SDRAM's are usually DIMMS. The terms have different meanings... SDRAM mean synchronous dynamic ram, DIMM means dual inline memory module. The ram that you should get is DDR SDRAM if your motherboard supports it. Let me know if you require any other info on it. I also have an athlon proc. Tho mine is currently clocked at 300 Mhz over spec, it still runs great.

And DDR is Dual Data Rate, meaning twice as much data is sent out from the chips (the data is sent out on the rising and falling edges of the memory clock - sdr data is sent out synchronised only to one clock edge (usually the rising edge)).

I just attended my first Pug-o-ween party with the Rochester Pug Club. Much fun was had by all. Our girls went as the Power Pug Girls. All the kids got it at first sight, but all of the adults had to have it explained to them, so we didn't win a prize.

Thanks guys.
SDRAM it is then.
The reason I'm getting an Athlon 1.4GHz instead of a Pentium 4 2GHz, apart from the serious price difference, is because I heard Athlons are just generally better than Pentiums. Is this true?

Prof, for years and years I would only run an Intel proc as I had an early AMD actually catch fire. Then with the Athlons killing the comprable Intel in horsepower I finnaly switched back to AMD. I seem to have nothing but good luck with mine. Do not skimp on your mainboard. That can be the difference.

generally if the two chips had the same clock speed, the athlon would be better for most things. Depends on what exactly you're doing and if it's optimised for one or the other. Even so I don't think you'd notice the chip performance of them too mich. You're more likely to see differences in systems due to other peripheral systems to the cpu (graphics subsystem, hdd access, human input etc)

My mother could never think of original fancy dress for me when I was a child. I always went as a or ballerina unti one party, when she dressed me in Welsh natinal costume. All the other kids thought I was a , boy was I !
I remember being green with envy (or was that too much cake?) of the girl who went as the 'The Last Straw'. All the straws from a box had been sewn on to the dress she was wearing and the last one was left in the box which was made into a hat! Needless to say she won!

Yeah, and it was me who started 'em off.
OK, here's the list of stuff I'm going to buy as soon as I've earned enough (I've already got HDDs, DVD-ROM, floppy drive, power supply, soundcard and of course the old items I'm going to replace):
- AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHz (266MHz Socket A)
- Fan for Socket A Duron/Thunderbird (1.4 GHz)
- Epox EP-8KHA + KT266A Socket A DDR ATA100 ATX motherboard
- Sparkle GeForce II MX 200 64MB AGP
- 512MB DDR SDRAM PC2100
All... those... acronyms!
Sound alright to you?

Three senior pugs; Ruppy, Beebee, and Tidbit. Mrs. Mac did their costumes, no small task as two of them will not sit for fitting (whereas Ruppy will sit forever so long as there's a camera present).
There were a lot of Ladybug, sorry, make that Lady-pug costumes. What is it with pug owners and puns? My favorite costume was the new mommy pug with her basket of puppies. She was dressed as a cow. On the puppy basket was the sign "Got Milk?"
I love Halloween!
