The list
Brian Souter
Brian Souter - the founder and chairman of Stagecoach - currently wins the coverted 'Top homophobe' position of the M2M2 blacklist, for his efforts near-singlehandedly funding the 'Keep the Clause' campaign1, in the name of his (fundamentalist) beliefs.
Baroness Young
A very active member of the Lords who is spearheading a campaign to prevent the government action to repeal Section 28, which has so far succeeded in scuppering the Commons' attempts to remove this ridiculous legislation.
Cardinal Thomas Winning
Catholics are, of course, known for their liberal beliefs, but Cardinal Winning is a homophobe, who according to the FT apparently sees 'the spread of liberal pro-homosexual ideas as similar to the bombardment of Malta during the war'.
The Daily Mail
A newspaper in the loosest sense of the word, the Daily Mail is persistently stiring up homophobia, often by simple misrepresentation of the truth, this paper supports Section 28 and even held a campaign inviting people to cut out and send in a coupon protesting against its repeal.
The Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts of America have gone to the Supreme Court to defend their right to sack Scout leaders for being gay. This policy of course extends only to those who are openly gay, and a similar policy is not in place to sack unmarried men cohabiting, or people known to lead 'unchristian' lifestyles. Apparently if we allow gay leaders they'll have to allow girls to join next... or something... their claim goes...
Bishop van Eijk
His appointment a few months ago in the Dutch province of Groningen, upset much of the Dutch gay community (and others) because in his lectures at a Catholic college/uni he said that homosexual people are mentally ill individuals who have no place in society, especially not in the (Catholic) church, and need to be 'cured'.
Dr Laura Schlessinger
Dr Laura calls gays and lesbians 'Biological Errors' and (probably worse) labels them all as paedophiles. Sadly, this kind of hatred incitement and bigotry has earned her a TV show on the Paramount channel. See www.stopdrlaura.com for more information.
Bruce Robertson
The owner of West Country store chain 'Trago Mills' paid for 'Tripehound' columns, which described 'poofters' as a 'foul minority' from whom children need protection. Castration and death camps were suggested as suitable options for treatment, and the word 'gay' was branded 'The greatest insult... to the English language'. He was later censured by the Advertising Standards Agency, for inciting homophobic violence, who were, according to him colluding 'with those factions within our society intent upon promoting the homosexual cause and suppressing the opinions of others'.
Lord Tebbit
Lord Tebbit launched an attack (June 2000) on the Labour government of the UK, not on the basis of policies or politics, but because, in his opinion, there are too many gay members of the cabinet. According to him only 2% of the male population is gay, and therefore the number of out government ministers is disproportionate.
Abercrombie and Fitch, Anne Klein, Casio, Old Navy, Perry Ellis, Polo, Prada, Versace and the NFL
These US Corporations have flatly refused to allow their products to be displayed on the US 'Showtime' channels version of Queer as Folk.
Also the NFL has banned the use of any reference to the NFL or Pittsburgh Steelers in the show. As if gay men don't watch American Football. The whole point about QAF in the UK was not that it was a show about gay men. It was a show about discovery and coming of age in which the leading charectors just happened to ne gay. Some of these campanies have in the past supposedly supported AIDS and gay causes how do they stand now.
Your Name Here...
Well, hopefully not your name here, but if you can think of someone who I have missed out, please mention them in the forum, and state why they should be on the blacklist, and I'll be sure to add them!
