He did actually exist at some point in time, so to say no such Santa, ever existed would be a lie, the Incredible Santa of the 21st century is a myth of course, but ye, I agree, there's no harm pretending it isn't!

Ah yes, I believe you're referring to St. Nicholas. He dropped bags of money down chimneys to save young women from having to become prostitutes to pay the bills.

I never heard that bit of the story. I thought St. Nick was just a kindly-type who delivered presents round anyone.
