Ooh, smiley - tasmiley - cheers But make it a malt Scotch (Talisker or Highland Park by preference), if you don't mind smiley - biggrin

I've been trying to locate said pub on Google Maps, but it's nowhere to be found on the only street I can fathom it being on.

I've only got Laphroaig. Will that do?

I'm not surprised you can't find the pub on Google maps. You couldn't find the 'cafe built into the cliff' while standing by the only cliff in Torquay...

Icy has sent me a cricket quiz, and I'm working through it one at a time. The whole quiz will appear on the Cavaliers blog soon, but I'll post each question as I work the answers out.

Here goes:

Each of these song titles has the name of an England Test Cricketer hidden within its letters.

For example, the song 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' contains the name 'Gower' (swinG lOW swEet chaRiot). The letters must be in the correct order.

So all you have to do is name the cricketers. The length of the cricketer's surname is in brackets. Each has played at least 20 tests. All have played one or more tests since the Second World War. Some songs have more than one possible answer. Ignore any punctuation.

(If this quiz is too difficult, then you can just treat it as a pop quiz. Who had hits with the following songs?)

1. A Million Love Songs (5) - two answers
2. Big Yellow Taxi (4)

Yeah, I couldn't find it on Gmaps or even while I was there, and the friend who went there with me can't remember exactly where it was either smiley - doh Maybe it wasn't even Torquay!

Well, I'm having some more of the homebrew we bottled on 4/19. I've sung its praises on another thread in this pub before, and if anything it's getting better. smiley - drool

I've got a bottle of something a bit special warming up on the counter, but I won't be opening it just yet. This is one to be cracked towards the end of the evening smiley - bigeyes

Stone Imperial Russian Stout

Only just arrived in Texas (and therefore my first go at this one), this is not a beer to be taken lightly... or at all some might say, considering its 10.5% ABV! It pours as black as Newgate's knocker with a tan-coloured head on it. Even holding it up to a light bulb, not a photon passes through. The aroma... chocolate, coffee, molasses, cherries, high roasted malt. The taste... all of the above and somewhat sweeter than the nose suggests. Burnt, burnt, burnt. This is also where that ABV first makes itself known with a kick like a mule. Definitely not a session beer. This is the beer that you round the session off with, like port and cigars. The body is a tad syrupy with hardly a hint of carbonation.

I must admit, I prefer the stout I had last night - Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout. Only (only... smiley - laugh) 8.1% and much dryer. Like Guinness Extra Stout but more so. Stone is just too flavoursome, has too much going on. Big Bear is more subtle, more like an Irish stout than a Russian, even though it too is classed as a RIS. I'm sure they'd both benefit from careful cellaring for a year or two, but I know that I'll be buying more Big Bear again for sure. Not so certain if I'll purchase another bottle of Stone.

Ah, breakfast beer. Now you're talking smiley - cheers Trust me though, if you had a bottle of the stone for breakfast (it comes in 22 fl oz bombers) you wouldn't be doing a whole lot besides laying on the sofa until much later in the day smiley - drunk

A full English and a couple of bottles of Guinness Extra Stout... if they ain't got that in heaven I ain't going!
