Speaking of Belgian , I just had me a pint of this year's Real Ale Devil's Backbone
Devil's Backbone (spring release) draught only
Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberley, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style tripel. Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale.
ABV: 8.1%, IBU: 36, OG(plato): 18

Just had the Maredsous Dubbel. 8% alcohol, rich head, lovely toffee and raisin-y flavors. Very yummy.

We'll be having the triple with dinner

Oh, what a bad beer taster am I. Didn't say anything about the Maredsous Tripel. On a possibly related note, the bottle says 10% alcohol.
It had a lovely amber color, amazingly rich and long-lasting head, nice raisin-y taste, and went down very smoothly. Too smoothly.

Cleaned out the closet, and discovered a few bottles of Christmas home-brewed beer. From 2007. A strong ale flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and orange peel. It held up surprisingly well and is still quite drinkable.

That sounds damn tasty Dark beers and strong beers often benefit from being laid down, like a fine wine. I'm currently cellaring four bottles of beer, including a bottle of Deschutes The Abyss, and an Independence Jasperilla 2009. And underneath one of our theatres right now are two kegs of last year's Anchor Christmas Ale. One will be tapped this Christmas, when we'll also hold back two kegs of this year's brew, and next year we'll tap the other 2008, plus one of the 2009s and the 2010

Anchor Brewing Old Foghorn Barleywine, 8.8% alcohol.
It is fruity, malty, and delicious. Ah, this is a fine way to while away an afternoon.
