Oh, that sounds similar to what we have here, only that we take Apfelwein. It's popular in this region here, especially for Fasching (sort of carneval).

Black Cat Ale:
R: Much better. I like the sharply acidic taste, the autumn flavours, the fact that the stoutness isn't overbearing. A lovely autumn stout
G: Nice, sharp, fruity taste - like bramley apples. Looks like a stout, drinks like a cider, and I'd have it down as one in a blind taste. Crisp and almost like a Chardonnay, and not what I'd expect from a stout at all - very good for it, though

Wychwood Hobgoblin....
(bearing in mind I've still got a cold which is impairing ones sense, err senses a bit).
Scent... virtually nothing thanks to my cold
Pours very nicely
Little bit lively out of the bottle on a tentative first sip, so I let it settle a bit more
Rich, fully bodied... but with some light hoppy things going on amongst the caramel maltyness.... mince pies.... caramel.... dark but not that* dark in taste, with the light hoppyness coming on kinda in the aftertaste, with a kinda lemon mince pie kinda high notes ....
Oo and I'm gettin g some scent now....
Big brown leather wallet after its had boiling hot water poured over it, with just a hint of linen sheets in cardboard boxes.... and slightly of stale tobacco and, oh, no, thats just me being near the ash tray
very* drinkible, a bit lighter than I'd prefer at the moment (I've been drinking lots* of really dark and strong porters and stouts the past months )...
so....
4 our of 5
Saying which I'm opening another

Whoops - posted in the wrong place:
Hampshire Brewery's Penny Black:
R: Pleasant enough; just enough roasting to be drinkable and nothing too pungent or overbearing. Nothing stands out, though - mediocre, and I wouldn't look out for it.
G: As a non-stout drinker, I would classify this as a pleasant introduction to the World of Stout. It provides a bitter-sweet, woody, gentle flavour neither overburned nor flavourless.

Wells Bombardier Satanic Mills:
G: It's been a long night. I don't want to have taken this journey and be disappointed at the end. Chin-chin. *quaffs deeply* Quite drinkable; almost velvety, and I'm not disappointed. Tonight/today we have embarked on a marathon to inform beer drinkers around the world that this beer is actually ok and I'll give it a bog-standard
R: The best of a mediocre bunch of stouts and porters (O'Hanlon's aside), in my view. It's pretty good; it's a grower, and a good one to end the night on.
And it's goodnight from us!

Just found this review in an open tab:
Meantime Laaaaarndaaaaarrrrrn Stout (cor blimey, guv'nor):
R: Like a nutty coffee but, erm, cold and with less milk. It's not bad, but very much like cold coffee - not unpleasant, but not one to look out for.
G: I can see through this. It gives me hope. But it does taste like coffee, and I don't like coffee.

We're having Lagunitas Brewing Company's Olde GnarlyWine. This barleywine (9.7%) has aged very nicely, malty, well=balanced hops, a thick rich mouth-feel, some fruity notes, and a bitter-sweet finish.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Dec 14, 2008
Hey, I know what gluhwein is - you can even buy it in the local supermarket at this time of the year. Well, Texas was largely settled by Germans y'know.
Tonight I have mostly been drinking Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale and Deschutes Jubelale. In fact we had a visit from the Deschutes Texas rep a few days ago who very kindly brought me a couple of sample bottles - Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale. She needn't have bothered if she was trying to sway me - I already have a six-pack of Black Butte in my fridge, but I very gratefully received them both She later sent me a list of all their upcoming seasonals between now and this time next year
Seems to me that it might be time to crack another bottle of something before I go to bed

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes I get so homesick for the US. Gosho and Sierra Nevada are usually responsible.
Key: Complain about this post
